If I clamp two boards 1 1/2 wide (3") total on top of each other, (96") long and plane the 3" edges will the plane work well enough to then mate the boards side to side with no gaps?
Asked by: Scott
It will if you are very careful; however, it would make more sense to plane those boards individually, maybe even use the edge guide to get them nice and straight and square. Planing them side by side can create a "gap" when you put the two planed edges together if you gouge (over plane) the wood in any one spot.

Does this tool self level wood or does it simply shave wood off evenly? I don't really understand how it works
Asked by: Christian
A planer is simply to remove a thin layer of material. If your wood is shaped like this < , it will shave off the desired amount leaving you with a slightly smaller < shaped piece of wood. You may want to look into a jointer. A jointer will square your wood where a planer just manages thickness

Which side does the sawdust come out of

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Marty
Either Side there is a grey switch lever that changes direction of the chip flow from right to left. The catcher bag slips off to go to the other side when ever you need it.

I really think that this tool is fine in the family of corded hand planers so I would rate this as average to it's competition, however, I find that this family of tools doesn't serve it's purpose well. I should clarify that I have been doing woodworking for over a decade and I have high expectations when I am using high quality wood and dedicating a lot of time to the project. You should NOT have an expectation that this is going to solve your surface planing issues. In my opinion, skip this family of tools and save up for a proper jointer and a proper 12+ in planer. Also, there is almost no reason to even put the dust bag onto this tool as its less than effective. Good luck, my fellow amateurs.

This planer a actually pretty nice as it offers a bit more for the money than the others at the store. It's built heavy duty, and comes with a soft case, rabbit guide and a dust bag. I really like how you can switch the dust to come out on either side (very innovative) This also has the automatic kickstand so you don't mess up your wood when setting it down and a built in wrench to change the blades with. The one thing I can say is that it's a bit heavy at over 9lbs, and somewhat bulky, but the knives cut like butter, and does a great job cleaning off and smooting out wood.

I bought this to hopefully cut down the time of stripping a 6inx6in beam because my belt sanders wasn't doing the trick. This planer worked wonderfully. I had to make two passes to account for the blade length but overall it definitely made a difference. I rated a 4/5 because the "dust" port often gets clogged with the bag on. After emptying after each pass, I ended up switching to a respirator and no bag. This machine allows you to choose which side the material is extracted. Overall, I would recommend highly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Close to junk First off..... I have a RYOBI only garage. Everything from drills to impacts, sanders. Literally everything in my garage is RYOBI. So this isn’t a bashing session at all. It is a let down. Used this 3 times to take material off faster before using my hand smoothing plane. It now leaves MASSIVE grooves in the wood that I have to sand down. Then use my smoothing plane. The blade has chipped so much it doesn’t even work after I switch the blades around.

We discovered our back door was not installed properly when it started coming out of the wall every time we opened it. Much to our surprise it was not connected to anything on one side. There was no 2X4 on that side. Whatever made the person that installed it think that would make for a stable entry I have no idea. We decided to tackle the project ourselves. My husband was very overwhelmed when the 2x4 we were adding was too thick to work. I ran to The Home Depot in our area and picked up this electric planer. According to my husband it worked great and was very easy to use. I could have paid twice as much for another brand but chose the less expensive product. I'm glad I did. We saved hundreds by doing it ourselves, and have a good tool for future projects. Having the right tool makes all the difference.

It saves hours of manual chiseling when there is the slightest issue of uneven (down to 1/8") in plywood floors. I am so glad we bought this. I can see how it can be useful in many DIY jobs. Its a bit loud.
