Questions & Answers

Is it durable?

Asked by: Cesar
NO. Clutch burned out on second use. Lasted about an hour total run time.

I have a problem to start my 1 year old unit which was fine last year.

Last year I used this unit mostly for trimming. After winter time I can't start it. Everything seems good: fuel line, electric line. I followed instructions provided on unit but all my attempts failed. Last year I had no problem.

First, check the spark plug,I can't tell you how many times I have something come in for a repair and all it is was the spark plug. Buy stabil gas line stabilizer and always mix it with the gas mix you use for the trimmer. When you store it for 3 weeks or more always let it idle until it runs out of gas.

Why does my Ryobi power head run great with the blade edger but constantly die with the line trimmer?

It's as if I have two completely different machines. I suspect the attachments add different pulls on the engine, but I need a solution. I can edge all the sidewalks and curbs on my large corner lot with one start when the blade is attached, but then I put on the line trimmer and I can't move two feet without it sputtering to a halt. And I'm using the same fuel, same start process, same setting, same hold.

I have had a Ryobi trimmer for over 20yrs and mine started doing that not long after I got it. What I found going on with mine was that the carburetor needs to be adjusted periodically and it needs to be done when the trimmer attachment is being used. Once that has been done it will run fine with either one. Kind of a pain but doing the adjustment has kept mine going for over 20 yrs. It was still brand new when it started. I tried to take it back to Home Depot and the guy just showed me how to do it.

gas / oil ratio

gas / oil ratio
Asked by: ray
Not a good idea to run any other mixture than what it is designed for, if you put more oil in thinking it will lube better it will run lean causing potentially very bad things to engine. Because you have same amount of fuel mixture (by volume) going in engine but with less fuel in it will make engine run lean.

Expand-it 25 cc 2-Cycle Full Crank Gas Power Head is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 622.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money I bought this weed wacker and all the attachments that go with it. I used the weed wacker two times one to weed wack my yard and the second time to Edge my yard. The next week when I went to use it to weed whack my yard it would not start. I called Ryobi and they sent me to a service center which the service center said it is a carburetor issue and Ryobi doesn't warranty any carburetor issues on any of their engines. Ryobi warranty isn't worth even the piece of paper they put it on. Ryobi customer service was not helpful at all and said sorry there's nothing we can do

I bought this trimmer 2 times because it was affordable and I trusted the Ryobi Brand. I was wrong! the trimmer works great for about 10 min then the motor floods and wont start back up. The carburetor is horrible and I have been trying to get a new one to hope that it will solve some of the issues i'm having. PARTS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. parts are on back order and have been for several months! I got the second trimmer thinking the first was a oddity but no, first time i used it, it went down for the count. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement for Crapsman This Ryobi RY251PH powerhead is a replacement for a Limited Edition Craftsman 25cc powerhead. The craftsman was "limited" alright! Limited to a 2-year life span before the carb gave up, even while using canned, premixed fuel. Used the Ryobi for the first time today and it matched up great with the string trimmer and edger tools that I already had. The motor is plenty powerful to get the edger through some thick edge growth at the sidewalk while being much more quiet than the unit it is replacing. Glad I could find the stand alone Ryobi powerhead unit at Home Depot and I'm pleased with the value! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RY251PH 25cc 2-Cycle Power Head RY251PH 25cc 2-Cycle Power Head I bought this unit a couple of weeks ago because my old Ryobi power head broke down. The unit was around 20 years old and the drive shaft wore out. The motor still starts and runs but for a few more bucks I could buy a whole new unit instead of fixing the old one. Over the years I have collected the 2 string trimmers, cultivator/tiller, edger, hedge trimmer, and blower. All in all Ryobi products have been in my garage for a long time including a whole set of 18 volt tools. I expect to get another 15-20 years out of my new power head just like the old one. Great products at reasonable prices. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 20 Years with you Ryobi, no joke Let me start with the RYOBI SWEEPER SB 720r. I purchased the sweeper blower back in the mid 90's with my first power head. Can honestly say the SWEEPER still works works great! My first power head lasted for about 6 seasons without complications. I have continued to purchase RYOBI Power Heads to use not only with the sweeper but additional attachments year after year. I am on my third power head unit over a 20 year period. Not bad if you ask me, most 2 cycle motors don't last long however, RYOBI did. Back in the day RYOBI changed the concept of multi purpose trimmers/yard tools in a way that made me a lifetime believer in functional multi purpose tools that make life a little less complicated. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Versatile Design! No nonsense system. In the last 3 weeks of owning this Ryobi 2 cycle Full Crank Power Head (its even fun to say HuuHuu) Ive made some clear observations of this well designed & crafted system. The first observation was the ease of use, dexterous mobility as well as versatility. The universal attachments make flowing into different jobs a total breeze with the wide range of selection & capability. I was impressed, highly & very happily. Along with Ryobi's superb design, especially its saftey mechanisms which blend right into the package, I would have to say thats its one of the best buys Ive made all year long. Thanks again Ryobi! I still have the receipt. About 8 weeks ago, I noticed a slight fuel leak which was pretty frustrating given that the leak started only about 14-15 months from the original date of purchase. After a bit of “go around” with a local repair shop, the Ryobi customer support team got involved and they were very quick to ensure that the fuel problem was addressed to my complete satisfaction. Generally, I have liked Ryobi products and have several other Ryobi power tools (drill, saw, etc) so while this matter was initially upsetting, I can honestly say that Ryobi’s response restored my faith in their products.
