When mixed according to directions on the Bag - How many Cubic Feet does 1 60lb. Bag make ?

This would be for a mix of the proper consistency for "Cinder" Block. Also, I have a Electric Mixer with a small opening of the Barrel. How wide is the end of a 60lb. Bag of this Mortar ? ( to get the open bag end into the mixer )
Asked by: David
It seems that no one wants to answer David's question the way he asked it. One 60 lb. bag makes .47 cubic feet approximately. Electric mixers come in many sizes - you can get the bag end in all but the very smallest (ie there's a tiny little 1/2 cuft mixer which has a barrel about the size of a large salad bowl). One suggestion - barrel mixers don't do a great job of mixing mortars (they are meant for concrete which has large stone in it).. Use a drill and paddle, or if it's a large job rent a mortar mixer, which has a fixed barrel and moving mixing blades inside.

How much dose a pallet weigh

Asked by: Leo
There are 56 bags to a pallet and the pallet weights around 50 lbs. So roughly around 3,410 lbs all together.

Putting white mortar on top of gray mortar?

I am setting flagstone in a mortar bed and I want to dye the mortar a nice color. My question is, can I go ahead and set the stones in a bed of gray mortar (about halfway up the depth of the stone), and then fill in flush to the surface with pigmented white mortar. I'd like to do it this way because it'll be cheaper if I don't have to use white mortar and pigment for the whole job. For timing reasons I'd like to let the gray level cure first. If I add bonder to the pigmented mixture, will the two levels of mortar adhere well enough to do it this way?
Asked by: CatsinQ
You can do what you're saying as long as you're careful. Once the gray is cured, there will be very little or even no bleed. To be safe you may want to come up less than half way up the stone. Too thin of a layer, even if it is fortified with latex (bonder) and well bonded will possibly wear out or crack.

60 lb. Type S Mortar Mix is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from wouldn't stick to bricks I purchased this product to lay and repair a few cap blocks near my deck. I tried mixing it as recommended and then tried adding more Portland cement. Product still wasn't up to par and I had to be creative with my mortar joints. Overall not up to par
