Questions & Answers

I have patterned layed concrete blocks with pea gravel between them. They are approximately 2-3 inches apart. Will this help to keep the weeds down?

Asked by: Cber
If you don't want to redo the pavers, your best bet is put landscape fabric under the pea gravel. You can use a wet-vac to vacuum out the pea gravel, or remove by hand. Lay landscape fabric over all and cut out. You will still get the occasional weed. You can use vinegar, Roundup, or whatever you use on weeds. HD sells a good polypropylene landscape fabric. It last for years. They sell good leather gloves too if you choose to remove the pea gravel by hand. I know working with pea gravel, stone, etc. is hard on a body. Good luck!

I am going to build a planter bed out of cinder blocks and planned on using this to fill in the holes and stabilize the wall. Will this work?
Asked by: JLG
One thing to consider is how high you'e going. If you're only going to build it about two or three you can probably get away with it, but I'd use regular cement. On a low wall (2 to 3 high) you could fill just the bottom ones and the rest with regular sand or gravel--depending on what look you prefer. Anything higher than that though, I'd use cement in all or at lest every other (and the top row, of course). Another plus with cement is you can get different colors and paint it in the future if you so desire. Oh yeah, one more thing if you're gong to build a high or deep wall: don't forget to use a good adhesive between the blocks (sides, tops, and bottoms) so the wall doesn't keel over from the weight and pressure of the soil, especially when it rains or gets watered. Good luck with you project!

If pavers are already layed and moss is growing between some does it need to be removed? If so how should that be done?
Asked by: Steve
You need to kill the moss then remove it. Use household baking soda. Spread it on the pavers, move it around with a broom. In a day or 2 the moss will turn yellow. Then you will have to scrape the moss out. The moss is growing from the surface down, NOT from under the pavers.

What can i use to keep the pea gravel in place between the pavers?

Asked by: Kat
Why did you choose pea gravel to fill between pavers? Try sand. Or, last season I re-did my 2 patios and used PermaSand between the pavers. My goal was to better control weed growth (I used sand when I first put in the patios about 10-12 years ago, which after a few years is prime for weed seeds to sprout). When applied as directed, the PermaSand works great. I hired a crew to re-do my large patio and they did not spray enough water on the PermaSand and it failed - just made a rubbery crust as described on the package directions. I power-washed the product out of the pavers in the failed areas and re-did the PermaSand myself - now it's firm and looks terrific!

PermaSand 40 lb. Paver Joint Sand is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 460.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does not last long I replaced all the sand in my 50 foot walkway with this stuff. It worked well for the first couple of months. I followed the directions to the letter. After about 2 months the material started to soften and rain started washing it away. I now have to replace the sand again what's something that will last.

I even watch U tube videos I bought (9) 40 lb. containers this was a waist of $180.00. At first it looked good but if you ever plan on cleaning it don't. It will come right out. top layer is silicone sand I kept refilling the parts coming out. after awhile it was just to much so It completely washed out into the yard enough I will have to scrape it up and haul off. I will try a different approach and use resurfacing concrete to fill in between paver gaps it seems so far to look much better and looks great plus I can clean it with out blowing anything away and maintenance free. No Re-filling parts all the time. I will trying to get the money back from Home depot shortly and will update my review.
