The instructions say to mix this product even though it is called pre-mixed. What simple tool can it be mixed with (stir stick, spoon, etc). as I don't want to have to buy a special drywall mixing tool?
Asked by: Dave
I'm just an amateur drywaller (remodeling my bathroom) - but here's what I did. I mixed the joint compound with a little water to thin it a tad for the 2nd and 3rd coats. I didn't mix it in the bucket though. I filled my mud pan a little more than half way with joint compound (mud), added about a little more than a half coffee mug of water, then mixed using a paint stick. It took a few minutes to mix and it made it much easier to apply and get a smooth coat. Had I known how much better it goes on, I may have done that on my first coat as well. Even if you're not adding water, you're still going to mix it in the mud pan as you apply it so I wouldn't worry about mixing it in the bucket. A professional drywaller may say otherwise (and I would defer to their professional opinion), but I didn't and my walls look great. I just finished painting and they are as smooth as can be. How to repair 6" hole in wall?

Asked by: Mark
Square the hole, then cut a square piece of drywall to fit loosely. Attach the drywall with drywall clips, fill gaps with mud, cover with paper tape, then cover tape with mud. Sand and paint.

Will this work to repair small to med holes in plaster walls.
Asked by: Kaye
Depending on the size of the hole, you should first cover with a new piece of drywall fastened to a stud or patch board. Followed by preparing the gaps with mesh tape. Then you can apply your compound and float out the mud.

Instructions say to prime afterward and recommend a “high pigment” primer. Now, the main difference I can find in online answers between paint and primer is that primers don’t have pigment. Hmm. So can I just use two coats of paint? That’d be cheaper than buying primer! My laundry shelf is already overflowing with small cans of barely touched paint products! Thanks in advance for your reply.
Asked by: Ted
I used 2 coats of paint I had on hand. It worked out fine.

This is the second time a leftover container turned moldy. This hadn't been an issue until recently. For years I used to store leftovers. The only issue then is sometime is would dry up after a long time. Now, the past two containers turned moldy. They were purchased months apart. Time to find a different brand

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wish it showed that it dries GRAY! I bought this all purpose in a small tub initially to test it out and then realized it wouldn't be enough so purchased the medium pail. The small dries gray and the bigger tubs apply and dry white. It's not a huge deal as I will prime and paint it BUT it really should have said so on the packaging. See picture of my ceiling which I skim coated. Product applies well, dries great and strong, super easy to sand despite it being hard. I also bought the plus 3 but this is far superior and now the only purpose I can see for the plus 3 is as a 2nd coat if applying 3 coats. This has superior adhesion and strength to the plus 3. They both sand equally well.
