In general, carbon steel holds a better edge is easier to sharpen. However, 420 stainless requires less maintenance, more resistant to corrosion and rust, and is less brittle.

Great Father's Day Gift
Customer review from sogknives.com logo
We purchased 3 engraved Fast Hawks for our grown sons. We gave them to them for Father's Day. Without a doubt the best gift they received in years! They threw for two days and only stopped because they had to go home! The older grand kids loved them as well

broke with 5 throws
Customer review from sogknives.com logo
Easy to throw. Stuck it on 3rd and 4th throw, but handle broke off under attachment on 5th throw. If I have to pay shipping to return it to get fixed and back plus insurance it will cost me more than I paid for it. Do not recommend buying it.

I bought this as a hatchet (over the Gerber 9”) for backpacking trips after reading some really positive reviews on the durability, length of handle, and light weight on several backpacking sites/blogs. I’ve used it now on two different overnight trips and a 5-day trip and couldn’t be happier with it. Even though it is designed as a throwing axe (which it is great for), this thing bites through limbs and even small/medium logs without fail. Such a good investment! So glad I got it over the Gerber, the bit of extra length on the handle is super helpful.
