About This Product

The Chef's Choice Rosemary from the Southern Living Plant Collection is quickly becoming a favorite specimen for home gardener chef's everywhere. This rosemary variety has higher oil content than traditional rosemary, so this makes it especially good for cooking and will be a great tool in spicing up a dish. Chef's Choice has a compact-mounded growth habit of powdery blue-green foliage that creates a great accent in kitchen herb gardens, mixed beds and container gardens. In spring this rosemary will produce petite violet-blue flowers that look great in cut flower bouquets.

Q:What is next best if you live in OHIO
    by|Jan 15, 2024

    Answer This Question

A:  I can understand that you are concerned about the USDA growing zone limitations in Ohio (looks to be mostly USDA growing zones 5 and 6) for the Chef's Choice Rosemary is only rated for USDA zones 7-10. So yes planting this Rosemary in the landscape is not a good option for you. You could however plant it in a container garden that can be moved to an indoor/protected space during the harsh winter and then move back out during the warmer months if you wanted to. I was able to find a few types of Rosemary that are more cold tolerant you might research - "Alcalde", "Arp", "Athens Blue Spire", and "Madalene Hill (Hill's Hardy)" --- Thank you for your question and good luck

      Q:Is this rosemary arp?

      Answer This Question

A:  I don't think so - "Chef's Choice" is a registered trademark and the Southern Living Plant Collection lists it as hardy only to 8a. I am in Zone 7a and am also looking for another "Arp" to supplement my old plant. I might try to root cuttings from it.

Q:I bought 3 small 2.5 qt rosemary. It looks very healthy! Living in North Texas zone 8. not sure can I plant it in the ground now (Late May, June) or should I plant in a larger pot let it grow for a season, more established , then plant in the ground next Spring? Also, watering should water till coming out from bottom or just wet the plant? I have no green thumb =( Thanks for your help!

        Answer This Question

A:  The sooner you can plant these will be the best for the plant. Please make sure to condition the soil well. Water them 3 times a week with a good dousing.

A:  I planted mine at this time- rosemary is a fairly hardy plant- if it hasn't rained in a while- go water it- but otherwise- put it in the ground with some soil- and watch it grow! Plants know what they are doing ;)
