Product Details

Southern Living Pieris Mountain Snow is more heat tolerant than traditional Pieris japonica. It offers interest in the garden with bronze-red colored new leaves that mature to dark green and pendulous flower buds that appear in Fall and persist through the Winter, opening in early Spring to reveal beautiful ivory white urn-shaped flowers. This Pieris requires little maintenance once established and has superb disease resistance. It is also a great attractant to pollinators such as butterflies while deterring certain pests like deer.
  • More heat tolerant than traditional pieris japonica
  • Colorful evergreen foliage throughout the year and beautiful white flowers in early spring
  • Grows best in filtered sun
  • Winter hardy in USDA zones 4B-8
  • Very low maintenance plant once established
  • Water twice per week until established, then water once per week
  • Fertilize in spring with slow-release granular fertilizer
  • Included in the Southern Living Plant Collection

Q:Is this variety dwarf? I’m looking for Dwarf Cavatine Pieris.

Answer This Question

A:  I don't know the answer. I would think if it doesn't say it is a dwarf, then it isn't. This is the second Spring for the plant I purchased. So, I can't tell how tall it will be.

A:  Home Depot description for this plant (Mountain Snow? Pieris Pieris japonica ?Planow?) says 7'H at maturity. However, Southern Living Plant Collectionwebsite says 3-4'H x 2-3'W. That's a big difference. I would trust info on Southern Living site over HD.

A:  Description said container so I bought it. I moved it to an 18" and it's doing great. Said slow growing so it ought to last a few years before possibly needed a replant

SHOCKED!…. In A Very Good Way!
When I ordered this 2 gallon Pieris in March in Zone 6, I did not know what to expect. I thought it would be in dormancy, with no or little leaves, and small. When I opened the box I couldn’t believe the plant I received. It was big, full and extremely lush! I planted it immediately and it looks fabulous. I don’t usually write reviews but I rely on reviews of others so in all fairness I just had to share this for others as a guide.

It looks strong and healthy. I'm looking forward to seeing sweet and white flowers in the winter.

                    Mountain Peiris
Received plants with some kind of illness. Has browning on stems that the foliage is dying. Trying to nurse them back to health. These plants are more maintenance than most shrubs. I have always had a good experience buying Southern living plants, hopefully these pull through.

                    Great for shady garden spots
Just ordered these snow pieris…arrived well packaged in terrific condition, fully developed with lush greenery. Needed plants for shady area that gets minimal direct sunlight. I have planted these shrubs before in zone 9b (No FL) and they grow quite well. This past winter they survived a hard frost well below freezing for several days without any damage. They require virtually no care. Blooms beautifully in early spring, while remainder of year they show off multi color leaf greenery.
