These screws have been excellent. The hex heads do not strip out like Philips heads. With predrilled holes, these go right into my wood projects and there is no need to counter-sink. If you are doing any kind of wood project you need to buy these in whatever size you need. Don't waste your money on Philips head wood screws anymore. Also, don't let the "Construction screws" fool you - they are great for you wood crafts as well.

Use for gable end retrofits to meet hurricane wind loads. Code requires that I use a bleep-load of 'em. Best screw I ever used, plus they're made in the USA.

Junk screw
Home depot should be embarrassed, this screw is junk. I was wondering why there was so many open boxes in the store now I know that is why many consumers have returned them. The head t-20 is too small, should be t-25 and it's of poor quality, the screw weak, it striped in the first screw. The point is not sharp. Stay away. Spax appears to make some good screws, but these are junk. Bought them in Turlock, California.

I have used the Spax and Deckmate brands and by far the Deckmate are the best. Why... Simply the star drive on the Deckmate is larger T25 versus T20 on the Spax. Doesn't sound like a big difference but just use both and you will be sold. I have striped out bits and the heads on the Spax but this will not happend on the T25 Deckmat. I took the time to review to save someone a little frustration. Overall the Spax are okay but why use something okay when you can have outstanding. Have fun!

This size is convenient for joining two 2 by 4-s together. The length of the screw equals the sum of the thicknesses of two 2 by 4-s, since the actual thickness is 1.5 inch. I pre-drill 1/8 inch hole and then use a countersink drill bit to create the cone for the screw head. The screw pulls the two pieces together even if at the start there was a wide gap between them. Furthermore, if the gap was wider on one side because the wood was warped, then it straightens up the warped wood. Nails cannot do this kind of job.
