Have a tendency to snap off during installation
SPAX exterior deck screws are good but not great. The screws have a tendency to snap during installation at the location where the screw transitions from the smooth section of the shank to the threaded section of the shank. I used Simpson Strong-Tie hex head screws where I could get away without using flush head screws.

Quality Deck Screw!
I screwed over 1,000 of these into 2X6 deck boards and not one bad screw. They easily self tap into the wood without much effort which saves a lot of time. I used my own Milwaukee bit so I can’t comment on the one that was included in the box. I will definitely use these again.

The single worst screws I have ever used.
Before using these screws, I didn't even realize I had an opinion on screws. The experience using these screws was so bad that I am taking the time to write a review in the hopes that I can help even 1 person avoid this awful product. 20% of the screws in the box didn't fit the bit that comes with them and immediately stripped. The bit got stuck in EVERY SINGLE SCREW driven. I literally had to have a pair of pliers handy to remove the bit from the screw after driving every single one. Garbage.

The guys who built the deck loved the ease of use without predrilling. There is certainly a shortage of boxes in all our local stores if that’s a sign that they are poplar.
