I only used these to replace pickets on a fence, in that capacity they worked great.
When dealing with a french cleat application, the weight is a factor in determining what fastener to use. Here is a link to the SPAX report from DrJ about this line is screws. Table 2-4 list the shear and tensile strengths of different sizes and diameters. https://spax.us/uploads/resources/DrJ_TER_No._2010-02_Construction_Screw_Properties_12-16-2021_.pdf Thank you for being a SPAX customer.
I would use a heavier, and possibly longer, screw. I also glued my 3/4" plywood sub floor prior to screwing it.
In my opinion these are the best wood screws on the market. They really don't need a pilot hole. They come with a new bit every box. To answer your question "yes".
Absolutely
The hot-dip galvanized coating provides a thicker layer of zinc than other zinc-coated fasteners. Hot-dip galvanized steel can withstand the harsh chemicals and slow the corrosion rate. Common metal parts used with pressure treated wood are connector plates, joist hangars, bracing plates, and fasteners of all types. No you would not want to use a Yellow (Clear) Zinc Coated Screw.
Depends on what you call safe. I've used these during the replacement of my privacy fence. On my old fence, I used hot dip galvanized screws. While taking down the old fence, I noticed the screws were rusted and a majority broke during the removal process. The spax manufacturer does not recommend outdoor use. These screws were recommended to me by a reputable carpenter who told me Spax screws is the only type he uses now. So I used them on my new installation. I have checked only a couple of screws just to be curious. They still look just as good as the day I installed my new fence a little over a year later. The "Spax T Star Drive" type screw was very easy to use versus the Slotted and Phillips screws. The Spax performs as the manufacturer describes.
Sure!
Treated lumber is corrosive to the fastener so we would not recommend a zinc coating. Instead we would recommend the HCR-X version of the #8 x 2 T-Star Flat Head screw. HCR-X is our high corrosion resistant coating and will deliver better long term results. Thank you for being a SPAX customer!
Yes, and no. Yes you can use this with pressure treated materials. But it is for indoor use only. I would not recommend these for outdoor use. For outdoor use use SPAX exterior screws with Torx head.
No I would use a stainless steel screw or a screw that is made to withstand the outside elements. If you are asking about the Florida code, you can get online and view what it states there.
You would have to check the code.
Hello, We do not recommend using a yellow zinc coated screw for exterior applications. We would point you to an HCR-X coated screw or stainless steel. HCR = High Corrosion Resistant. These screws are designed for exterior applications when exposed to the elements. Thank you for being a SPAX customer, The SPAX Team
Probably not, they are for wood only and most FL houses are masonry construction requiring a special screw like Tapcon that is made for masonry.
It comes with a short t-20 driver.
The driver comes in the box. It is either T-20 or T-25.
It's a T-20, and there is one in the box, usually.
These screws have a T-20 plus bit supplied in box.
T-20
Yes bit is included
Hello, No, these are not impact rated bits, however they are heat treated for strength. Thank you for being a SPAX customer, The SPAX Team
Yes, I have used the included Torx driver with a cordless impact driver
It's all in the thread. The thread on a Spax is unparalled for performance having serrated edges. The screws are self driving, do not require predrilling and will not split the wood, even oak. There is no better screw, period. I've used every type and make of screw for a wide variety of projects, everything from extensive decking to fine finished furniture, and the SPAX is the only screw that I will use now.
