Will this charge smaller 6 volt batteries with a slower 2amp trickle charge? i was told to use a trickle charge first in order to avoid damaging battery. Also will it charge a completely dead battery like a manual charger. i have read that some automatic chargers will not revive a completely dead battery.

This charger has a dial on it for charge time minute. For instance if you want it to charge for 30 minutes you would set the dial on 30 minutes. So Yes, it has a timer.
