8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Dehumidifier is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 113.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from So So A/C I can't compare this with any other room or portable A/C, since it's the only one I've every had. However, for what it's worth: The output temp isn't as cold as I'd have expected for an 8000 BTU unit The instructions couldn't possibly have been worse. The writers couldn't possibly have ever seen the unit. Example. The vent hose actually screws into the unit and into the window fixture. You find that out yourself. The vent that exhausts hot air thru the window has no hood so you can count on rain running into the vent hose. Also the grill, which should keep out small pests will stop squirrels but anything smaller slips right through. I bought a 5" vent cover from Amazon which does the trick. Costs $15.00 which I shouldn't have had to spend. Finally, the sliding fitting which adapts the hose to the window has one segment where a lip is on the outside. Perfect rain trap. Makes you wonder if the maker actually looked at what they did. The jury is really still out on performance

Rated 5 out of 5 by from effective cooling This unit has been doing an effective job of cooling the master bedroom, which is actually somewhat larger than the area this air conditioner is designed for. If you are venting out a window with a screen on it, take off the grate that is on the end of the hose or you may have some interference issues. The only quibble with this unit would be a resonant vibration through the side of the unit while running. Not quite as bad as flow-masters on a truck, but definitely there. I solved this by putting some zip-ties around it's waist with a piece of rubber between the zip ties and the side of the unit. I increased tension on the zip ties until the vibration stopped. I don't know if every unit would have this same vibration, and, I didn't feel like returning it to find out, but this solution was easy enough for a tinkerer like me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good a/c Unit We've had this unit about a month now. After 1 week, the tabs on the adapter to the window kits snapped off. Called the company, they were very nice and spent 1/2 hour on the phone with me trying to figure out why we had the "round" window adapter kit instead of the "oblong" adapter kit. They determined the unit came with the wrong one and sent me the "oblong" kit. Guess what? It doesn't fit the window! Called them back and they're perplexed so I took a picture of the duct taped "round" adapter and the non-fitting "oblong" adapter in our window. Waiting to see what happens with that. Other than that, the unit is pretty good. Wish the levers would move Left to Right, not just Up and Down. If you run it a lot, it doesn't keep it's cool as well as I'd like. Does cool off our bedroom, but mainly if it's blowing on you directly. Fortunately, we don't live in a humid environment so don't have to worry about draining the unit. If they can get the hose design down pat, it would be a better product. If you move the unit to the left and right too much, the hose will come undone from the unit and it's a pain to get back on.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Where's the intake hose? The unit came intact and appears to be functioning as intended. The extension provided to fill the gap when you open your window was not tall enough for my window. Fortunately, the packaging included some flat styrofoam that filled that hole nicely. My main complaint is that it has only one hose between it and the outside air (the exhaust). I specifically bought this particular unit because the online specifications said "Vent hose configuration = Dual" (and there was no picture to contradict that). The air that it pumps out has to be brought in from *somewhere*, so it winds up coming in through all the cracks and defects in the house. In other words, this unit, when functioning as intended, cools one room *at the expense of others*. To be fair, Home Depot offered to take the product back, but I'm finding no 8,000 BTU units out there with dual air hoses, and I have other equipment on that circuit that precludes a larger unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. Works very well. It brought a large living room into 78 degrees in our last 100+ weather. The dogs were happy. I love that I will just be able to roll it into a closet when this is all over. Note:Buy it on-line, I'd hate to drag it home.
