Is mortar recommended with this tub's installation?

Answers

It is recommended, but not "required". I bought 1 bag of sand mix (sacrete) and mixed a 1/3 bag (20lbs or so) of sand with it. Just slumped it all in the center where the tub base would touch and placed the tub on top of it and wiggled it a bit to get it to sit. I would not install it without a mortar bed.

What is the correct depth of this tub? It says 60" but that obviously is not correct, looks like ...

I ordered this tub because it was on sale and about $75 more than the low end Bootz I normally put into rentals but I got tired of the bootz chipping within a few years and rusting. I read the reviews after ordering and I was shocked about all the negative comments. I almost cancelled my order, but I'm glad I didn't. Once the tub arrived, I made sure to check the sides for cracks that people talked about but it was packed really well and seemed ok. I work by myself, so I usually haul the tub around with a dolly. This one was just light enough to drag around in the box. I dragged right side up and sideways through the doorway into the house. I dragged it all the way into the bathroom and placed it a few times into its spot to get the plumbing all lined up - banging it around during the entire process. I was sure based on the reviews that I would have chipped or cracked this tub, but I didn't. There was a bit of damage to the very edge of one of the front sides, but that section would be covered by tile and caulk. This tub is deep, has a really nice clip system to attach to the studs, a brace for the skirt (so I didn't need to put down a 2x4). It also has a fairly thick piece of plastic that covers almost the entire tub and the exposed side - which is fantastic to keep it protected during the remodel. I did lay it in a mortar bed because I didn't want the bottom to crack and it feels really solid. During the cement board and tile install and painting, I stood on the front ledge and along the inner edges as necessary and it held up. I even sat on the front edge as I tiled. I'm 5'10" and I was about 265lbs when I installed this thing, so the tub is solid. Would definitely recommend and I will buy again if I see it in the $300 dollar range. Keep in mind, the tub has not been wiped down in the photo - this is just after removing the protective plastic and vacuuming the inside of the tub.

The tub did not fit the old tub space
I measured the tub and it fit the spot perfectly but where the drain lined up, it was about 1.5" higher then our previous tub. I did not have any space for to move the drain being in a concrete floor and there was no extension for the drain it did not work for me. Pros: Beautiful finish Deep soaking tub measure to fit Cons: Didnt fit the old drain We had to return this unfortunately but Home depot gave me a full refund no questions ask,

This was a great purchase for our bathroom. I specifically was looking for a standard tub but one that had a little more depth than all the others. For the price it can't be beat!
