A: This is Soapstone, not sure why you anyone would think this is granite.
A: Home Depot sells two "black soapstones." This one, Model P-BLKSPT-3x3 is genuine soapstone, likely PA soapstone. The other one, Model DT-S601, is actually granite that looks like soapstone and is, confusingly, named "black soapstone" as well.
A: Addendum to my earlier post. After waxing 16 soapstone samples from soapstone suppliers, this HD sample from MSI is definitely not P.A. soapstone and looks a bit granite-like. Need a larger sample to determine exactly what kind of soapstone it is.
