I would suggest that it will bond better to dry surface. We use it to cover exposed foundation insulation, it works great, we have had no problems with it below grade

Is it paintable

I have old house with brick foundation. Will this work to cover bricks and help insulate

Tuff II was easy to apply over old bricks or concrete with an uneven surfaces. Coating looked great when I finished the job and was easy to obtain the surface texture I wanted. I have used a mortar mix bonding coat before which is much more difficult to apply and more labor intensive work then applying Tuff II coating. It bonded to the brick surface well, with no cracking when it dried even over a foundation with cracks. Not sure about insulating qualities of product but seals gaps and cracks well.

Will this work over painted stucco? Will it smooth the apparience of cracks and patches? Will it add any type of texture?

I'm not to sure about going over painted stucco but if its just cracks and patches maybe....I've had my Tuff 2 for several months now, but I haven't had the time or weather to use it for my purpose...The stuff looks and acts similar to acrylic stucco to me....I did a test about 3 months ago in which I put a thin base coat on a sheet of durock cementboard..let it set for 10 mins and then made a thick slurry from some of it and dashed it on and did a knock down....the result was a very hard stucco finish ....It does take a little time to fully cure but I believe it can be used to stucco a whole house if one wanted to....and it comes in a variety of colors...

does this product come in other colors? I would like a dark gray.

The Tuff II Trowel on Coating is available in several colors. I requested color samples directly from Styro Industries a few days ago and they arrived today. There are three greys, a green, a yellow, several browns, white and 3 or 4 tan colors.

It has a very rough, sandy finish.

Can this be applied inside over foam?

What type of material is this product going to be applied to? This material is applied in a relatively thin (say 1/8 inch) thickness so it does not (in my non-professional) opinion offer any structural rigidity. I used it to coat my exterior foundation foam insulation panels. The product is already mixed, and applied with a trowel. Basically, a polymer based concrete mix.

Can it be used over existing coating

I've found it sticks fairly well to almost anything.

Can this be used on a garage floor? I’m looking for a material that won’t chip or crack.

I would NOT use this for a garage floor. I don’t think it would hold up. It really is just designed to be a decorative/ protective finish coat for styrofoam. It dries hard but is somewhat flexible. If you were only walking on it it might hold up. Tires might tear it up.

I bought 10 gallons of this to coat the XPS insulation around my garage and I am happy with the way it turned out. I used a wire brush to remove the weathered foam, and then applied the sticky mesh. To apply the coating, I used a hopper gun (HFT) for both coats. It was definitely hard on the back using the texture gun just above grade, but I think it was less messy than it would have been to trowel it on. On the first coat, I excavated the area next to the foam and masked off the siding. I sprayed a workable area, then went back and troweled the material to smooth it out, work it into the edges and gaps, and push it into the mesh. On the second coat I sprayed it on in an orange peel finish without going back over it with a trowel. This helped to hide imperfections such as washers and tapcon screws that were holding the foam against the concrete. I added about 6 ounces more than the recommended amount of water to thin it out to get this texture, which seemed to work out. The coverage of 80 square feet per bucket/per coat seemed accurate. The color of the finish was darker, and a bit more brown than I would have expected for "concrete grey." It rained moderately about 24 hours after I finished with no ill effect on the finish. I back-filled using clean stone after a week or so and the Tuff II was quite stiff by then. I think it will hold up well for many years.

This product worked well. I did use more than I anticipated due to the styrofoam had a lot of holes due to chickens pecking at it. So that was a little more difficult than expected. However, when using the tape it gave it a hard surface and looks 100% better!

I just keep saying to myself, 'Man, this stuff is tuff.' And then I laugh because that is its name. When you first apply this, you think it won't set up as strong as it does. The warnings about not applying in direct sunlight are no doubt because it begins to set up quickly and then you end up messing up the partially set up area. You'll see...it isn't all that big a deal, but hot sun doesn't give you much time to work. Unless you are going to apply it at night, you will end up experiencing this. The product is fantastic. It becomes almost flexible concrete. It is difficult to get it off your tools, but who cares.

Excellent stuff. The mesh is swell too. I trowelled on the first two coats, covering voids. Between coats, I trimed the ridges. Then touch ups. I sprayed on the last coat. It looks great.
