I did not find it too difficult to build. There was not an easy button but just time and patience. I wore gloves and found a vise in combination with a pipe wrench worked wel, in getting it tightened and straight/lined up. I had to add to additional nipples to mkae it longer tp fit the space I wanted it for. I used soapy water with krud kutter and a toothbrush to get the oil off. Then once it was dry I used a matte clear coat spray. I love it! I put it in the space as we go into our walk in shower streched over our glass block wimdow to hang our towels. Fits my industrial style decor perfect.

Stinks to high heaven and comes off on clothes, no mounting hardware included
This SEEMED like a good product but when I got it home, I read the instructions and the first thing is to clean the product. This is because it is covered with grease, which you have to scrub. The long pieces are covered with a false patina coating which, if you don't scrub off, WILL stain clothes. In addition, this thing smells God awful. I can't even describe what it smells like. For the price, the mfg should have cleaned AND coated the product to make it appropriate for home decor (smell free and grease free, like every other coat rack in history). Then the instructions tell you to polish it with metal polish (not included, and who the heck has that just lying around??) To add to the frustration, the 8 mounting holes (which are indeed necessary due to the weight of the product) do not come with any mounting hardware at all. See the pic below for the residue STILL left after I scrubbed and assembled the product. Don't let your hipster decorating inclinations get out of control. This product is not practical.

Great industrial look and a good coat rack. It's made up of real plumbing pieces so, it's dirty. We spray-painted ours. One odd thing is, if you tighten it good and tight so it holds even the heaviest coats, the "hooks" will not line up. So, you back off the tightening, then some hooks sag.

It purchased LDR pipes to build my own towel rack with shelf and a parts to make a paper towel holder. Because much of it came in sets of two is was cheaper than purchasing them separately. I am not sure about the smell that people are complaining about but it is probably the grease that is on the fittings. The grease is probably there to help you put the parts together. So just make sure that you wipe it off. I also painted mine as I wanted a bronze color. My only negative comment is that threads don't all line up especially with the connectors so you have to play with it until it works for you.

Some reviewers have complained of smell and oil/grease. This is an industrial pipe. NOT a plastic toy. You must clean it properly. Stains are caused by the stupidity of the installer. Holes are typical of an industrial bracket. Weight is typical of a metal pipe. I had no problem assembling and installing this. I have made tables, lamps etc... from industrial pipe. This was by far cheap[er than buying the pieces separately. Lazy or non thinking buyers should pass. If you like to save money and have the time and ability to clean the pipes/fittings you'll have a great piece.

This is black industrial pipe, dirty and smells. Once you get past that, it is the cheapest cost that Ive ever seen. If you were to buy these parts separately you would spend $65 or 3x as much. I bought 3 of them and am making light fixtures out of them, for my carriage house.
