Product Overview

  • Solvent and VOC free formula is safe to use
  • Deep penetration helps restore the damage caused by rot
  • 100% waterproof material withstands harsh weather changes
Rot Fix from System Three Resins is an ultra-low viscosity epoxy, wood sealer, hardener and primer. It is specially formulated for fast, deep penetration into wood fiber, helping to restore body and structure to wood damaged by rot and severe weathering. RotFix creates a solid foundation for paint or other restoration products such as System Three SculpWood Putty and Paste. It is unique in that it is made from 100% epoxy solids and contains no solvents, water or VOCs’. Products containing these solvents are often very low in actual resin solids. They are significantly affected by humidity and shrink as they dry leaving little material in the wood to do the job. RotFix, on the other hand, cures entirely by chemical reaction with nothing is lost to evaporation. This means no shrinking, and all of what you put into the wood remains, making RotFix far more cost effective with superior results. Additionally no solvents means RotFix has virtually unlimited shelf life. The 24 oz. kit of RotFix contains 16 oz. of epoxy resin, 8 oz. of epoxy hardener and a convenient measuring bottle. It is mixed at a ratio of 2 parts resin to one part hardener. Simply pour the desired amount of resin into the measuring bottle. A guide, printed on the side of the bottle will show you exactly how much hardener to add. Shake the bottle to mix then apply to the wood surface. Reapply until no more is absorbed. At room temperature RotFix will cure in about 6-12 hours. Can applied heat to speed up process.

What color is this once hardened?

I want to apply this to the softer wood on a burl bowl, then coat the whole project with Tung Oil Varnish. Would Rotfix make the treated area look different than the other areas?
Asked by: Bob
Unless coloring powders or wood dust is mixed in while still liquid, the hardened epoxy will be fairly clear.

Can this be used to harden a concrete countertop that is crumbly?

Asked by: SANDI
I think the product is intended to be used on wood and wood by-products but I would give it a try since it is an epoxy.

what solvent to use before it sets up? what is working time before it sets up? say 70 degrees
Asked by: john
First let me say that this is good stuff. It penetrates rotten wood and is a good base for paint or the companion product. I have learned that paint doesn't adhere well to "grey wood" and I use RotFix to prepare grey wood for painting. To answer your questions: Before curing you can clean it up with laquor thinner. The mixture has a working time in warm weather of about 30 minutes. I generally mix only a little at a time and usually use it all up in about 15 minutes. This stuff is expensive and once you mix it up, you either use it or loose it, so it is better to mix little batches than to mix a lot and have some left over to throw away.. It does get hot once you mix the two components.
