Questions & Answers

is there a way to get samples of 2 different screening material only available online?

i'm considering No-See-Um Screening for windows and New York extra strength screen for screen doors.
Asked by: bettyboop2
I have no idea. I would call my local Home Depot and ask if they have any samples or might they be able to contact the manufacturer for samples. The screen comes in prepackaged rolls so I am not certain how they would handle this problem. I am certain they would be happy to try to help.

Would this keep out crickets and other insects from coming in?

My current screen door and window look tight but don't keep them out. Thanks!

Is this product a 18x16 or a 20x20?

The screen i have now is a 18x16 and it's not working, so I want something finer. Also how does this hold up in heat and cold? I was thinking of covering my vents with it too.
Asked by: Goddess
Hello Goddess, glad to help. This roll is Extra Strength 36 inches Wide by 84 inches tall Charcoal Fiberglass Insect Screen. It is very fine & has held up nicely for me now going on 2 years here in Montana Summers & Winters. Thanks for the idea of placing on the vents. Good One! Hope this Helped.

I;ve read that aluminum is better than fiber glass for insects as they can eat through fiberglass, but not aluminum. Ture? Thanks!

Asked by: LadyDetective
Hello LadyDetective, I have read many reviews but haven't heard that the bugs eat through the screens. I am also a Professional Window Cleaner both in Commercial & Residential. Both screens will collect dirt & can be cleaned easily when washing the windows either buy spraying through the screens & wiping or wanding the screens & then wiping. Fiberglass comes cleaner quicker & the Aluminum always is in a state of oxidization. This is why I personally like fiberglass. Also fiberglass is easier for the DIYer to re-screen in my humble opinion. I hope this Helped.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice screen. Very easy to work with. Strong. I used this screen to replace a window screen and it worked out very well. It is nice and strong and durable and does keep insects out. The weave is nice and tight. I put some closeup pictures for you so you can see. It was very easy to work with and the darker color filters the bright sunlight much better than the old lighter aluminum screen did. It is much more attractive and adds a subtle, overall improvement to the room. This is a very good price for a very good product! I will be using it on several more window screens and highly recommend it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from squirrel-resistant screen For various reasons, my kitchen window screens often develop holes -- from harsh direct sunlight, curious birds, and aggressive squirrels who hang on the screen door any time I bake peanut butter cookies. (Yes, really!) I installed this to see if it would hold up any better than the standard type of screen, and I am happy to say that, after about 6 months and 3 different seasons, it looks as good as the day it was installed. It is a little bit darker than the original screen, but not enough to annoy me. It was also easy to work with for this average-skilled DIY-er.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from EASY REPAIR This review is for the Saint-Gobain ADFORS, 34 inch by 84 inch All-In-One Screen Repair Kit FCS8557-M. What is important to keep in mind is that this is intended to be and definitely is a repair kit. As a repair kit, it can serve the handy homeowner well. One can purchase this kit get it home and within a very short time make a repair. The kit is complete with a spline tool and a roll of spline making a separate trip to the store for an additional purchase unnecessary. An inexpensive spline tool would cost you at least $3.00 and you would have to purchase more spline that you need at a cost of another $5.00. So for under $9.00, you can get the screen, tool, and spline you need to do the repair. The screening is a fiberglass mesh, very flexible. It appears to be able to withstand even the pawing and scratching of one’s pet dog. It will certainly keep out insects and bugs. The manufacturer claims it to be 40% stronger that standard fiberglass mesh. I don’t know how the manufacturer conducted the test, but it does appear stronger than the other fiberglass screening I have used. I used it to repair the bottom half of a screen door and it appears to have the same visibility of the top half of the door. The color is a pleasant viewing charcoal – a little darker than my other screening but not a noticeable problem. This was my first self-repair and I found the installation directions to be easy to follow. Each step is accompanied with color pictures that support the written text. I removed the door and placed it on a table to make the installation easy. I don’t think one can achieve a tight fit if the door is not removed and laid flat either on a table or the ground. In fact, the directions depict a flat install even though it does not particularly state that the flat install is required. Overall the screen was easy to work with and installed easily. I recommend this repair kit to anyone who wants to save some dollars by doing a little work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Appears Durable – Time Will Tell How Good It Is I got this screen to replace one that I had previously installed several years ago. It is stapled against latticework that skirts the underside of my deck (see picture). The lattice and the screening are intended to keep small insects, mice and other wildlife from burrowing through and making a home under my deck. A screen I had previously installed had been ruined by small critters or mice that apparently tore through the screening (see picture), so I was looking for a screen made of “tough” material that would be resistance to critters. The screen appears to be a densely woven fiberglass material that I hope will be durable for this special use. It was easily cut to size with a scissors and did not rip when stretched and stapled in place, which suggests it will do the job. The material was attractive as installed (see picture). Only time will tell how the product will actually perform.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good quality screen, but applications very limited due to smaller dimensions. This screen, given its dimensions, is only really useful for screen doors or narrow widths of less than 36in. I could only use it on the screen door for the patio, it cannot be useful for the very large screens enclosing the patio, so something else with appropriate dimensions will need to be used for that. Be aware of this when shopping for replacement screens since the size of the screen is directly related to whether or not you will be able to successfully install it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Product I needed to replace a window screen that my girlfriends 84 pound Lab destroyed trying get into the house during a rain storm. A little too big to be afraid of the rain I thought, but what are you going to do. It was fairly easy to install and looks pretty good also. It closely matches the color of the screens on the rest of my windows. It seems as though it will hold up for quite a while.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits Well/Strong We used this as a replacement screen for our front storm door after our cats shredded the last screen. It was easy to measure and cut. It fit tightly and smoothly with no creasing or puckering. Very strong! Looks great, too! Hard to take a photo of it, though, because it is so seamless, you can't see the screen in the picture.
