If only the designers had a brain.
When I bought this refrigerator, I thought I was getting a quality product that had some neat extra features. Unfortunately, it was designed by idiots. Most of the design flaws are invisible to the buyer. The only one that I saw was the placement of the water filter. It lies between the two produce drawers and it takes up more space than any other water filter I have ever seen. The produce drawers are noticeably smaller. As a result, I need to lop off the top 1/4 of a celery bunch before I can fit it in the smaller than average produce drawer. OK, it’s annoying, but I can live with that. It's the invisible flaws and design errors that have me replacing the refrigerator when it is only three years old. Yes, you read that correctly. I am replacing a $3,000 refrigerator after only three years of use. The first design flaw that reared its ugly head concerned the icemaker. At the one-year mark it stopped making ice; it filled up with frost; it couldn't be persuaded to work for anything. The nice repair guy came out and told me that there was a faulty chip in the icemaker that had failed and caused the problem. He replaced the chip and we were happy again. Two years later, and I was faced with no ice while the heat wave of summer 2021 was breaking records. I called a repairman and found out the new chip had failed after only two years. This time I would have to pay for replacement, and while I forget the exact amount, it was around $300. I decided to hold off on that repair because other features were also going out. This included the control center located on the middle "Flex Zone" drawer. The settings and temperatures of the refrigerator were no longer displayed, and the door alarm was not working. The fee for repairing this breakdown was about $350, and my husband and I bit the bullet and authorized the repair. Why would something like this stop working? Well, as it turns out, Samsung connected a wire harness to the flex drawer and that transmitted the settings from the control center to the rest of the refrigerator. Great idea, except that with just normal use the wire harness became frayed over time. Once that happened, no new commands (like change the temp of the flex drawer) could be entered. Additionally, there was no data visible for the current temp of the refrigerator or the freezer sections. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, since I got three years' use of this feature. I would assume that I will get another three years' use of this new harness, and will then have buy a yet another one. The next feature to fail was the in-the-door water pitcher. This was kind of a cool feature, but not one that I used all that much. There is a 1-liter pitcher that sits inside the left upper door. It can be set to fill with water that is diverted from the in-the-door water dispenser. The system senses when the pitcher is not full and will top it off with enough water to fill it completely. I used it for filling the coffee pot reservoir – pretty handy. It has stopped working for no identifiable reason. The final flaw is the design of the freezer. There is one large drawer, which is the one you see from the outside. Pull the large drawer open and a secondary tray/drawer floats above the main drawer. This is the problem child in this area of the unit, primarily because it is made of very flimsy plastic. It tends to hang up on the tracks of the main drawer (especially if there is much weight on it). Sometimes I can't get it to pull out. Other times the stupid thing won't let me close the freezer drawer. It has come to the point that I barely use the upper tray; I keep lightweight items like frozen waffles there, and put the meat in the lower part of the freezer. Samsung really needs to clean up their act before they lose many more customers, and they need to start by looking for patterns of failure in their large appliances (there are so many to choose from). I will never purchase a Samsung appliance again, and will tell anyone who asks me, why I have made that decision.

    Avoid At all Costs!
we have plenty of samsung electronics and appliances and never had any issues. however, this fridge has been a nightmare from day one. the ice maker stopped working a month in. it froze up. each time we were told to just defrost it and move on. clearly a design defect. the water pitcher works sometimes and other times it doesn't. now we are starting to see the back panel frosting over. the bottom drawer on the freezer is broken and falls off the tracks. we ended up getting a thermometer and have started to notice temps in the fridge are off. which is potentially a health and safety issue! please avoid this model at all costs because there are some serious design flaws and defects!

        So classy and modern!
We absolutely love this refrigerator. We upgraded from having a full size GE refrigerator with handles and we don’t miss it one bit. Such a perfect addition to our home! No problems at all. Love the extra walking space with having the counter depth style. Infused water pitcher is a plus! Very happy!

this counter depth refrigerator is beautiful. i love the streamlined look. however, the icemaker has frozen up over and over. this requires manually defrosting the ice maker. i’ve seen my same complaint repeated by others across the internet. samsung please, please, please figure out how to fix this issue. an appliance this expensive should not have this problem. i am defrosting the ice maker again while i write this review.

            Extremely disappointed with quality
we are extremetly disappointed with quality and lack of support to get the issues resolved. we have several pieces of the stainless steel that are chipping off and the samsung logo is peeling off as well. we purchased the refrigerator and extended warranty less than a year ago and were told is it not covered.

              Oh, that ice maker!
Firstly, after 7 years our counter depth, our French door Samsung has never missed a beat and is a champ for temperature control. That said, the ice maker is now dead in the water (so to speak) and we just use good old fashioned, low tech ice trays to make our cubes. When we purchased the unit we also bought the 5-year Home Depot warranty, not just the 3 year. Just after the third year, the ice cubes stopped being made. The entire ice maker was iced up. Long story short, during the years between year three and year five we had FOUR service calls under warranty. Obviously, problem resolution was only temporary. Per our warranty, five service calls to repair the same part on the Samsung would entitle us to a new refrigerator. Therefore, the technician they sent out the fourth time seemed to be their A-team. He knew how to fiddle and fuss and in the process sort of bad mouthed the previous techs for their lack of knowledge. By now you may have guessed that thereafter things went along just peachy...until at the start of the 7th year the entire ice maker frosted up and froze over. On our own dime, we are not about to have have a service call for what obviously a losing battle. In the tenth year we’ll probably buy a new refrigerator, maybe a Bosch. It appears that Samsung, in the years since we bought our refrigerator, has never substantively redesigned their ice maker. Maybe it’s rocket science after all. So dear reader, buy what you will but keep your eyes wide open; and for refrigerators particularly, I recommend buying the longest warranty you can.

                This refrigerator is JUNK.
we paid over $3000 for this refrigerator. after 1 year and out of warranty the ice maker began freezing up. (which is located within the refrigerator area, not the freezer) we have to chip away frost to get it working or totally defrost it with a hair dryer. this has been weekly for over a year now. we are contemplating buying a free standing ice machine. don’t buy it. check the reviews online. many have had this issue. its a bad design.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I rarely ever write a review but, I always read them. I wanted everyone to know how pleased I am with my new refrigerator. The chic look is wonderful. I have never owed a Samsung appliance very happy with the experience as well as the refrigerator! Very professional insulation process and very nice men who did the installation were helpful and polite.
