Questions & Answers

Does this oven have self cleaning

Asked by: Eileen
Yes, it does. And it works half way decently, but after using this range every day for a year, I've found that you still end up doing a lot of cleaning yourself.

Is the convection oven gas or electric
Asked by: johnesk
It's both gas and electric. I have used this oven for over a year though, and I'm not happy with it's performance. I notice for appreciable difference between the convection and and regular baking modes. I'm mostly cooking meat and vegetables, so perhaps it's different with cakes, etc. Truthfully, I am very disappointed in this range and wouldn't buy it again if given a choice.

Can this unit sit flush against the back wall without a countertop gap?

I'm replacing an existing slide in range that went all the way back to the wall with a stone backsplash above it. I'd like to replace it with a similar setup and not need to install a trim piece on the back if possible. Can the unit sit flush against the back wall? Does that leave enough space for the gas pipe stub (located roughly in the center of the opening at the back wall coming up from the floor)? The cabinet is standard 24" depth and the countertop is 25-1/4" deep quartz top. The cut out is full depth all the way to the back wall. The stone tile backsplash sits above the countertop and is about 1/4" thick.
Asked by: olen
NO! And this has been a big problem for us after buying it. The back wall of the range actually sticks out further than the top of the cook surface. We have a big ugly gap at the back of our range. I have no idea what the Samsung engineers where thinking when they designed it this way?!

what is the difference between the samsung nx58h9500ws and nx58h9950ws

Asked by: andi
When I looked at the two units side-by-side, the "upgraded design" basically boiled down to a different handle style. The Chef's handles are flat bars, and on the other unit the handles are round bars. To decide which stylistically would be best for you kitchen, I would suggest looking at the handles on your dishwasher and fridge. If your stove is on a different wall than the other appliances, the handle style makes no difference in my opinion.

We bought this over a year ago and I've spent a lot of time cooking with it and getting to know the unit. Bottom line, I would not recommend this range at this price point. You are paying for premium features, but in my experience, this range doesn't do anything better than the less models. Pros- Appearance. It looks great!! Cons- -The grates are difficult to clean. -The cooking surface is nearly impossible to clean. -The aluminum burners and burner covers get a brown stain on them which will not wash off, and I really mean it! I've scrubbed it with every cleaner I own. I've put it in the dish washer. I've soaked it overnight. It does NOT come clean. It looks to me like it's some kind of heat related burn that actually tarnished the metal. At any rate, I expect better from a premium product. -The grates scratch the stainless steel cooking surface where they contact it. The grates have a little rubber cushion on the bottom, but it does not prevent scratching. - The oven thermometer probe is woefully inaccurate. After spending big bucks on this range we were expecting a nice Thanksgiving turkey. Nope. Probe misread temp = dry disappointing bird. -The knobs on the front have a lots of creavases which makes cleaning difficult. Same goes for the oven door handle- darn near impossible to get grease totally cleaned from it. The only way I've found to work is using a toothbrush (what a pain!). -The back wall of the range sticks out past the cooking surface, which presented problems for us installing a down draft vent into the counter top immediately behind the range (thus leaving an ugly gap). Also, our touch screen broke after about a two weeks. Samsung did come and fix it under warranty, which was a relief. However, the process of waiting on hold and pressing buttons to actually get someone on the phone was tortuous, and of course, we were without a range for several days before the repair man arrived. Bottom line- This Samsung range looks amazing, professional, and sophisticated (minus the permanent brown stains on my burners), but it's actually not very well designed,. It doesn't cook any better than less expensive ranges we've had. And my biggest gripe; the upkeep and cleaning is unusually difficult, time consuming, and annoying. Overall, we regret spending the money on this range. As much time as we spend cooking, I'm pretty sure a time with come when I will cut my losses and get rid of this range for one that's more well engineered.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Well that is unfortunate. I purchased this range for a new home build the end of August 2015. We didn't move in until Oct. 1. The range was relatively a good performer, with neat functions. All was fairly well until this year, on the night before Thanksgiving Day. With us hosting the Thanksgiving festivities, my wife decided to run the "Self-Clean" cycle, overnight, as we went to bed. We awoke the next morning to the display DEAD. Assuming it just got hot and tripped the breaker, there was no cause for panic. But, the breaker was not tripped, the oven was no longer working. A quick Google search led us to a quick diagnostic that the "brain" was fried from being over heated by the self-clean cycle. And wouldn't you know, a One Year Warranty. Thanks Samsung

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Customer service I love the unit its features more than accommodates my daily lifestyle. However within less than a years time it has broken down on me 3 times. Underneath the top burner plate is a sensor in my model. If items boil over and touch that sensor it will lock out your touch pad. They sell a model with that sensor on the side I'm told. The touch screen locked on me after a self clean as well. After the warming draw stopped warming I was told since its under a year that samsung has to service it for me. After speaking with a representative and given a complaint number they stopped responding to my complaint. So now I have a expensive piece of art that doesn't work as designed and a angry wife. It's strange but if it worked as designed I'd recommend it. But their customer service left me hanging in the wind. If they reach out to me I'll report that to you guys as well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice range. Lots of features. Shallow warming compartment. I purchased and had this slide-in gas range installed in my home last week. The range provides a large recessed area across the back panel, so it wasnt' necessary to shorten or relocate the existing gas line that extends about 10-inches out of the floor. Aside from a gas line, and the proper fittings, a 120v electrical receptacle is required to power the igniters, touch screen, light, etc. The main range is controlled by an easy to operate touch screen display. Food cooks evenly and pies rise higher using the convection fan. My wife has been baking non-stop since the range was installed, to make up for the 3 weeks she was without a range. The range appears to be very good quality contruction, although my wife and I wish the cast iron grates were heavier gauge. The range includes a weighty 2-sided cast iron griddle that sits ontop of the elongated center burner, and a cradle for holding pans with rounded botoms such as tea pots and woks. This is a 30-inch range which required no modification to my existing granite counters. The range features an approximately 1/2 inch overhang on each side to hide the unightly gap that usually exists between a range and countertop, giving the range a built-in appearance. The warming compartment at the bottom of the range is more shallow, than the Frigidaire range it replaced, and even though there's a separate control knob for it, the manufacturer doesn't recommend using the warming compartment for storage. One thing to note, which I don't care for, is that one or more of the igniters will click and spark when trying to light another burner. Also, the burners are more difficult to light than the burners on my old range, presumably because of the relatively long range of travel in the knob between the ignite and the high heat settings. For whatever reason, the top of the range runs shallow and doesn't extend to the back wall. Even though the range is entirely constructed of stainless steel, top included, Samsung includes an optional black painted metal spacer. Since the spacer didn't match the range, I purchaed a stainless steel vent from another brand of range to take up the gap. Overall, this is a really nice range and we are thrilled with it, so far. The stainless steel is shinier than other appliances we own, so we may have to upgade the other appliances to match. That said, the differences between this range and the NX58H9500WS are subtle; a different handle (flat vs. rounded), extra 1,000 BTU burner, and a better rack glide, and may not be worth the extra cost for the subtleties and Chef Collection badging.
