Let me begin by saying I’m a firm believer that everything Samsung makes lacks ingenuity & is usually copied from other products. Samsung TV’s (hello Sony?) to smart phones (iPhone?) are primary examples. However, this robotic vacuum turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Maybe Samsung developed it independently b/c I shopped around both online and in retail stores and compared this with many other models. My informal conclusion is that it seems like an excellent product that may be Samsung’s own. The performance has been outstanding. The suction, the sensors, & the remote are all features that aren’t perfect but perform exceptionally well in most circumstances. This vacuum has definitely exceeded my expectations.

I adopted a dog that sheds quit a bit and was having to vacuum frequently. I was hoping this would help and it has. I still vacuum myself a couple days a week but this vacuum has freed my time back up and the job it does is great. I use it when I'm home because it does get into a tight spot every now and then and shuts itself down. It really does everything by itself and cleans most of the dog hair and everything else. I was skeptical at first and was going to take it back immediately if I didn't like it but it's going to stay. It doesn't vacuum in the same pattern a human would but is very thorough and I love this vacuum. I'm using it now. I did buy the extended warranty and glad I did. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and would buy this again!

The vacuum only lasted 2-months because the pet brush rotates with a metal to plastic bearing. I used the vacuum 3x per week for 2 months and the plastic portion of the bearing melted. The thing is useless without the brush. Samsung technical support says that I have to send the entire vacuum in for repair. The manual even shows how to remove the brush on page 22, but the tech said that he cannot send a repair part. This is a product design failure. Plastic should not be used as a bearing surface. There is no way to actually fix the problem without redesigning the brush. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

(What's this)
When the original Samsung Powerbot was released in early 2015, it was one of the priciest robot vacuums on the market. To appeal to a greater number of consumers, Samsung create the Powerbot Essential. The Powerbot Essential is a less frills version of the original Powerbot. It’s a little less powerful, does not have scheduled cleaning, has two as opposed to four cleaning cycles, and doesn’t have the point and clean remote option. It however is more affordable. In the box you receive the Powerbot, charging dock, remote control with batteries, spare filter, brush cleaning comb, and manual. Setup is quick and easy. I just plugged in the charging dock, turned on the Powerbot, and then docked it to charge up. Some of things I like about the Powerbot: - The waste bin is clear and located on top of the unit for easy access - The wheels are large and rugged - The waste bin is larger than on most robot vacuums My experiences... I have a 2800 sq. ft. two-story home. I first tried the Powerbot downstairs which is all tile and an open floor plan. It did very well except with our two tables. Our dining table and kitchen table each have six chairs. The chair and table legs often proved to be too much of an obstacle. The Powerbot would get stuck and shutdown. I then moved upstairs which is wall-to-wall carpet. To my amazement, the Powerbot navigated and cleaned all four bedrooms and the game room. I closed off the bathrooms and laundry room. It would always have to dock to recharge then it would go finish the job on its own. There were two problems however. First the Powerbot works best in a tidy house. The more stuff and clutter you have the harder the job will be for the vacuum. Second the charging dock did not sit level on our carpet. The Powerbot often made many failed attempts to dock. On tile it stuck it the first time every time. Ultimately I put it back downstairs. My solution was to flip the chairs onto the tables prior to running the Powerbot. That of course takes away from some of the convenience but I personally did not mind. One thing to mention is the dark carpet issue found with most robot vacuums. The area rug in our family room has dark spots that triggered the cliff sensor. The Powerbot was always able to deal with the dark spots of this thick carpet but it wasted a good amount of power dodging what it thought was a cliff. Samsung might consider an override for the cliff sensor. Without being able to schedule cleaning, I usually run the Powerbot when I leave for work or when I’m cleaning upstairs. Regardless of the extra features, a robot vacuum needs to work well at being a vacuum. The Powerbot Essential does just that. It has great suction, navigates very well, and runs quite a while on a single charge. Robot vacuums are still somewhat of a novelty but are at the point to where they can really do a decent job.

Overall, this is a great vacuum for a general cleaning with the added bonus of not having to do the work! Set up is super simple- just plug it in. To start it, you press a button. The trick is to clear a room of tight/tricky places, and let it run the full hour. We alternate rooms each day. Just watch out for tight spaces and don't expect a perfect clean. PROS: -Runs for an hour and will return independently to charger -Intelligent mapping- (see video) doesn't bounce all over the place, but plans and maps -Re-charges in about 1 hour -Fairly quiet on full power, also has a "quiet" setting -Powerful vacuum that sucks up dirt, dust, and pet hair -Transitions over different surfaces (rugs, carpets, hardwood) without problem -Can navigate around most objects such as chair/table legs, toys, oddly shaped edges -Has a sensor to slow before bumping into the wall/objects -Has a sensor to stop at ledges/stairs CONS: -Small trap means it needs to be emptied frequently (in really dirty/hairy spaces even before the run time is up but in most cases after each hour-long run) -Does not get edges and corners well -Will not pick up larger (1" +) debris such as leaves -Gets trapped easily in more confined spaces (less than 2 sq. feet) and stops running- I suggest staying at least in the house to be able to pull it out of tight spots if you don't block off those areas -Needs the full hour to get full coverage of a single room

(What's this)
This robot vacuum cleaner is about 15 inches by 15 inches, a bit larger than most similar units. It has a powerful motor and is a bit noisy because of it, but the noise is worth the additional suction and cleaning this unit is capable of. You have the option of choosing a lower suction setting which steps down the noise, but also steps down the cleaning action. I found the stepped down mode still does a very good job of cleaning. Unit is solidly built and has some heft, which helps it maintain traction without problems. It has multiple sensors that allow it to map out a room, and then systematically goes about cleaning it. After it maps an area, it runs in straight lines, back and forth, which I prefer as compared to the random nature of other robot cleaners I have used. It also senses when it is about to hit an obstacle and changes direction. Some other units first need to “bump into” the obstacle, this one usually doesn’t, which really helps it from accidentally closing a door and trapping it inside a room. It transitions from carpet to hard floors with ease, and does a good job of maneuvering around obstacles. Like other robots, it has a hard time with shoe strings and smaller chairs or bar stools in corners, as it can get trapped. This unit is easy to empty and has a good capacity tank. The remote control that is included allows you to select the cleaning mode, from normal to spot cleaning – where it does a concentrated effort in a five foot square area, select the suction mode, normal or quiet, and to tell the unit to head back to home port. Unit automatically goes back to port when the charge is low. It takes over two hours for a complete charge from dead. Unit can also be directed to turn right, left, or go straight with the remote, which is great to help direct it to a particular spot. One disadvantage of this unit is that it is not programmable, a feature I like where you can tell it to clean on a schedule you set. This unit must be told to start each time either from the unit or from the remote. There are also no “Do not enter” gateways that prevent the unit from entering a room as some other units I have used have. If you are looking for a cleaner that looks like it is built for business, is powerful with about a 45 minute to an hour run time per charge, does a great job of cleaning, and presents a systematic vacuum look to you rugs, this unit is a good choice. Unit comes with an extra filter, remote, brush cleaning tool, and is backed by a one year warranty with a 10 year motor warranty.

(What's this)
The PowerBot Essential is easy to set up and literally almost completely hands free. Plug in the charging station, place the "bot" onto it and wait 160 minutes for it to perform its initial charge. Once charged, press the "Play" button and it will leave the charging station and begin to vacuum the floor, mapping its way around objects and attempting to cover all open floor space until either the dust bin is full or the battery is depleted. It will play a tune when it's full, just pop it off, dump it out and put it back on and it's on it's way. Once the battery is depleted, the unit will stop vacuuming and return to the charging station using the last of it's battery life. Modes: Auto mode is as described above and it works great. Although the dust chamber is relatively small, the vacuum does a great job picking up anything in its path. Ours went from hardwood floor onto shag carpet and vice versa and had to be emptied twice, once about 45 minutes into the cleaning and again after covering the entire first floor of our house after returning to the docking station (about 1200 square feet). Spot clean is used for cleaning a specific mess. Place the unit in the area to be cleaned and it will go in circles until the area is cleaned, then pick it up and put it back onto the docking station. Or, The remote can be used to drive the unit around wherever you want by using the remote control. This can also be used to direct the unit to specific area's that need cleaning without relocating the unit manually. Function: I was happy to see that the unit's "Cliff sensors" actually worked! We placed the unit upstairs and tried to make it fall down the stairs but it was too smart. It stopped abruptly and turned around whenever it got close to the edge. However, when the unit was on hardwood floor heading directly towards another room with shag carpet it did stop at the threshold and turn around, thus not getting into that room. We learned that you must think about exactly where the docking station is in relation to what pattern makes the most sense for your home layout (carpet to hardwood transitions, etc..). When we moved it to a perpendicular wall the unit had no problems going from the hardwood floor to the shag carpet as it transitioned over an angle. Noise: This unit has two vacuum modes, power saver and normal. The normal mode is what we used as we wanted to ensure it was doing the best job it could, so more power was ideal. The sound level was as expected, more quiet than a conventional vacuum but a little louder than a kitchen range exhaust fan on high. The lower mode was even more quiet, but I'd rather use the normal since we'll likely use this when we're out of the house anyways. Concerns: I thought the cats were going to loose their minds at the sight and sound of this thing, but no luck. They really didn't care. I guess that's a good thing. Seriously though, Since the battery is obviously robust, I sure hope it lasts a long time because I can only imagine replacing it would be quite expensive. Overall, this vacuum really works great. It picks up everything that would normally be on a floor with two small kids and cats running around and since it's automatic the only thing you have to worry about is cleaning it out after each use. I guess the idea is, the more it works, the less it will need to pick up and the easier it is to deal with. We love it! If you want to see it in action, check out the video below.

(What's this)
I will admit I was VERY skeptical about a "robot" vacuum, and didn't set my expectations too high. First off, it was bigger than I expected, and taller, which means it doesn't fit under the couch like I was hoping. BUT it does a pretty amazing job on the rest of our hardwood as well as our area rug in the livingroom. Very easy to set up, you just plug in the home base somewhere out of the way, and according to the instructions, try to make it along the grain of your hardwood floors if possible. There are two main modes, auto, and spot clean. You can also use the remote to tell the vacuum exactly where to go, if you enjoy sitting in a chair and just pushing buttons. We have a smaller house, 1400sq feet, and about half of that is hardwood. To get ready for auto mode, I put the dog bed up on the couch, and move the dining room chairs into our bedroom. Close all the doors (if they are carpeted rooms) and pick up general stuff (kids toys, shoes, etc). Then I hit auto, and the vacuum takes about 30 minutes to do our livingroom, dining room, hallway and kitchen. Not as fast as I can vacuum myself, but it does it by itself while I get dinner ready. Since I have an 11 month old in the house, it has been even more important to keep our floors clean. It doesn't do fantastic in edges or corners. When it does detect a corner it ups the power and goes into it again more slowly, but still doesn't do as good a job as the wand off the vacuum. But it gets the majority of the space where my baby is crawling all day, and that's what's important to me. I just get the edges on the weekend. So far it has gotten stuck once, when I accidentally left our bedroom door open and it got caught on laundry. Otherwise I have actually been impressed with its ability to maneuver around objects. The canister isn't huge, but for our space it is just fine. I was honestly amazed (and grossed out) by the amount of stuff it picked up the first time I used it! I have spot cleaned around the litter box area a bunch too, and it is great for that as well. I understand this guy is super expensive for a lot of people. But if you have multiple pets inside (we have two dogs and a constantly shedding cat) and especially if you have a baby all over your floor, this thing is honestly so worth it! I can't use it on our carpet (the instructions say our carpet is too thick) so I still have to vacuum the bedrooms with the dyson. But honestly as a mom who works full time and working on my masters as well, this just helps me keep on top of things a little better and makes me feel like my house is staying a bit cleaner.

Only lasted about 5 months then just stopped. They couldn’t even fix it and had to wait two months before I got anything back from my protection plan. Would not recommend to anyone. Save your money!
