I had a brass kick plate on the that I changed to the nickel plate. The old holes matched but the screws with the new plate were too small to work in the holes. I had to get new screws to finish the installation.

This kickplate is constructed out of aluminum and appears well built. Prior to purchasing, I read reviews and complaints about the color but I actually like it. Yes, it's closer to black and doesn't have the "highlights" of the typical aged bronze look but I personally feel a two toned kickplate would really stick out. Comes with screws (more than 12). Holes are predrilled and the spacing appears standard. I literally swapped old one out in less than 2 minutes. I highly recommend.

      Saved a 1978 Door
I used this product for a garage entry door off my driveway. The laminate had developed vertical splits that were about 6-8" long. The shards of lifted laminate looked like daggers pointing one's feet. Initially spouse and I tried replacing the door, only to find that an off-the-shelf steel door would not fit properly (door was thicker than the original). It was either refurbish the existing door or pay a large sum for a custom door. Decided to dismount the door and attempt to repair it. First used wood glue to stick down what remained of the laminate (used a large damp sponge to wipe off the excess glue so that it settled only in the cracks). After that dried, areas of misising laminate near the bottom of the door were filled in with wood filler. Next, I sanded down the surface and painted the exterior side of the door with Rust-oleum oil-based paint, also found at Home Depot. Spouse then cut this kickplate down to our odd-sized door and placed one on the front and a second one on the interior to cover up where our dog scratched the bottom of the door. The result is that I no longer see any evidence of prior damage. I do think these kickplates are somewhat overpriced — they should be no more than $20, IMHO — but like everything else, the cost is going up. I plan to buy two more of these bronze kickplates protect a same-age wood-grain laminate door going from the garage into the house. Sure beats the cost of a custom replacement door!

Looks like my husband hoped it would. Protects our door from wheelchair scuffs and looks attractive with blue door.
