I understand you manually lock from the outside when you leave. How do you lock it once in the house? Does your door remain unlocked?
Asked by: tater
On the inside there is a knob that if turned it will lock the deadbolt. This requires a code from the outside in order to open the door once engaged. If you are still inside you would just return the knob to its original unlocked position to open the door.

When I put in the code. Do I have to turn the lever? Or does the door automatically unlock?
Asked by: Tom
You put in the code and then turn the upper lock knob to unlock or lock the door, then open with the lever handle.

Can you use the key instead of entering the combo if you forget the combo? Thanks

yes, but why? You can program your own code so it is easy to make something you won't forget.

Ours came with the wrong screws, which caused it not to work with a code or a key. It seemed to install properly, so the old lock where thrown out. After realizing none of the trouble shooting steps did not work, I spent 58 min on the customer service line, before I gave up on anyone talking to me. I went to the store and purchased a new one because did not want the leave the door unlocked. After 2 more hours of installing the new lock set we realized that one screw was to long, we swapped out the long screw and finally got it to work. The other thing I don't care for is that the dead bolt has to be manually turn in and out instead of just unlocking. With the key it is even more confusing. The directions where not very helpful. A list of what each screw was would have been helpful as well as a time saver. Over 10+ hours spent between 3 different guys. Paid $125 because I trusted Shlage..they have lost my trust, the lock is a joke!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Solution for Work Crews I'm a 64yo woman with some disabilities and I just bought a house. Had to get work done before moving in. The same day after the closing, I went to the house and installed this Schlage lock by myself. I assigned a lock code to each work crew so that they could gain access if I wasn't at the house. It was a perfect solution so that I could be packing at the old place (57 miles away) and the workers could get in and do their thing. When a crew completed their project, I just deleted their code from the lock. This was recommended by my realtor and I hope to pass it along to someone else. Note: when entering a new lock code or deleting one it is normal for the lock to beep after you press a key. Example to add a code first you enter the 6 digit master code, then press the Schlage key, then press 1. After you enter the master code the lock beeps, it will beep after you press Schlage, and again after you press 1. This is normal. It does not mean you have done something wrong. (Took me a while to figure that out).

The lockset is a very good quality, smoothly operating lockset. However, the directions leave a lot to be desired. Very little actual written directions, mostly pictures. In three languages you would think a few written directions would have been supplied. I have installed many dozens of locksets over the years, so it was not that big a problem for me to work through. An inexperienced person would be very frustrated with the process. There was no list of included items in the box to check what you had against. I always start by doing that and familiarizing myself with the process and reading through the instructions. I just wish they would run these instructions by real people to see if they are sufficient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No More Keys I purchaaed one of these a few weeks back but due to holidays and being busy didnt get around to installing until this past werkend. Didn’t know what we were missing and it works great. Was easy to install but I have one complaint instruction hard to follow, however, there is You Tube. I loved so much went and bought two more. Installed one last night and had an issue to where it would not lock with the Schlage button but would unlock with it without a code. Spent long time trying to figure out and Googled and came across the solution. Wasn’t the lock but my fault because when I installed it turned the cyclinder that comes from the keypad wrong. Fixed in two minutes. Recommend highly as we now have them in three doors n

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Schalage Deadbolt with accessory door handle It is a new and great experience not to have keys to worry about, simply hit the schalage button and turn the lock and off you go. When coming home just enter the pre programed combination or one which you can simply program to the numbers you want. The number pad is easy to push and fast, no more fumbling with keys. The door handle that comes with it is first class and comes in a variety of finishes. You won;t be sorry if you purchase this as it makes life a lot easier and no more hiding keys. You can give different codes to people for a one time use then simply erase it so it won;t function with that number again. Very convienent way to lock your house and some insurance companies give a discount for having deadbolts on your door as they are much stronger. Very simple to install and program besides being elegant looking.

I recently moved and purchased this lock set for the second time for my new home. I had it at my previous home for 6 years. In those 6 years I never had a problem and it looked as good after 6 years as it did when I put it in. Adding and removing codes is simple and really convenient if you have someone you'd like to give access to your house (e.g. pet-sitter) so you don't have to hide keys or make duplicates. I found installation a little challenging but it was my first time installing something like this so it required lots of patience and looking at the instructions several times. During my second installation I referred to a youtube video of the installation and it made installation so much easier. Overall have been really pleased with the set and feel it's well worth the money.

With this keyless lock, we could do away with the realtor lock box. It was relatively easy to install this in the main door, but because of the external keyed twist knob, I had to remove the inside handle from the storm door. The new Schlage lock fixture was bumping up against it. It works fine, but since I have just started using it, I will have to limit my rating to four stars. It's performance over time will determine whether it ends up at five stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beware your door! This would have been the third one of these digital locks I have installed. They are great. Unfortunately, this one would not fit the industrial steel door in question without a lot of modification and drilling that I felt only a locksmith or other highly skilled person should attempt so I was forced to return it. The whole point of this is to take a hard look at the door for installation before you buy one of these and start working. On most residential doors, they are a very simple remove and replace though. Programming the lock seems mildly complicated the first time but really isn't. However, if you are doing it in a mildly noisy area (like an airport hangar door) or even if the wind is blowing hard, you may not be able to hear the soft 'beeps' that go along with programming nor can you see the indicator light flash if the unit is in direct sunlight. These are actually easily worked around once you do it a couple of times and just assume that they happened as they should after the steps.
