Overview

The DH5MA is an uncoupling and waterproofing membrane designed to secure Ditra-Heat heating cable in place. Ditra-Heat provides uncoupling to neutralize shear stresses between the substrate and the tile covering to prevent cracked tile and grout. The cut-back stud structure of the Ditra-Heat membrane holds the heating cable in place without the use of clips or fasteners. It also eliminates the need for a self-leveling compound which minimizes the assembly thickness and allows for quicker installation.

Does it plug to the electrical outlet? And can it installed to the laminate floor?

Asked by: Rhet
This is intended to be wired into an electrical box with a floor heat thermostat and sensors installed. It is not simply plugged into an outlet. Installation under ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone tile is recommended. Laminate is not recommended over ditra-heat.

How is the Ditra mat secured to the plywood. What type of adhesive do you use
Asked by: Dave
I was at work when the mat was put down. I am not sure if adhesive was used or not. It appears that they applied it over the existing floor covering. I am very satisfied with this setup, and it works very well. I would recommend this set up. I would also recommend the installers. They were wonderful and very efficient.

Does the membrane add insulating value or provide moisture protection?
Asked by: Bubba
Absolutely no insulating value. It is a plastic material but I'm not sure it would work as a moisture barrier.

Ditra-Heat 3 ft. 3 in. x 2 ft. 7 in. Uncoupling Membrane Sheet is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Product Before commenting on the product, I want to give Kudos to The Home Depot for having a good price on this product and free shipping to home. Although shipping was estimated to take 10 days, I've ordered this product (Schluter Ditra-Heat) twice and both times received it in 4 days. Maybe I'm close to the distribution center, but whatever the case I'm happy with the speed of delivery. Regarding the Schluter Ditra-Heat, the product is easy to install (cuts easily with heavy shears) and makes installing the heating cable very quick and simple. In the event you need to reconfigure the heating wire after your first layout attempt, it's very easy to just pull up the cable, move it, then reset it into the mat. Couldn't be happier with the easy of installation. However, at $22/sheet for a little over 8 sq. ft. (3'3" x 2'7"), it seems outrageously expensive, hency my 3-star rating on Value. I don't believe this is a Home Depot markup thing, but more that Schluter is just proud of the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best product for heated tile floors. Prep work is key. There are no mortars on the market, modified or otherwise that are rated for applying Ditra on plywood or OSB. If you read the labels, they all want an underlayment like Durock, which defeats the whole purpose of using Ditra! Schluter says it's okay to put down their product using polymer modified mortar over plywood and OSB. Who do you believe? I guess I'll see if I just wasted a pile of $$ once we walk on this floor for a few years. I sanded my OSB with 80 grit sand paper on an orbital sander and carefully cleaned all dust before applying a polymer modified mortar and setting the Ditra. It seems to have stuck very well. Make sure your mortar is not mixed too dry or it will not soak and adhere to the fiber backing on the Ditra. All in all, easy to cut to size and install. Prep is key. Would like solid answers from Schluter about plywood and OSB applications.

This is the most frustrating product I have used in construction of an entire house. I wet the floor, mix the morter to almost soopy, trowel it down with the specified notch put the product down and press it down firmly, pick up a corner and it does not stick. I pick the whole pad back up and there is no morter on it at all. I have tried it twice now. It is very expensive for such a failure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! This worked extremely well for my floor heat wires! Provided a puzzle like pathway to run the heater wore with worrying about nicking the wire with your trowel! I would recommend to anyone putting in a heated floor on backer or concrete.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't try this at home. These were in addition to a floor heating kit that I purchased separately which did not include enough sheets to finish my floor. It is not trivial to install the heating cable as it needs to be tested at every step. However, this seems to be the best way to heat a tile floor, especially if you have an irregular area to heat. This particular purchase only augmented what I already had. Be advised, these sheets do NOT include heating. You need cable, thermostat and more to finish the job.
