Q:Can this unit be used with the new Chevy Bolt?
        by|Jul 10, 2017
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  This will work with the Chevy Bolt, but as a Level 2 charger. I will be using it when I get my Bolt in September (currently use it with a smart ED). Love the charger, BTW. Totally trouble free for almost 3 years (knocks on wood). I’m going to assume that by “fast charge” you mean DC Fast Charging. To do DC Fast Charging on the Bolt, you need 1) The DC FC option installed at the factory (+$700 option MSRP), and 2) A DC Fast Charger (specifically a Combined Charging System (CCS) charger) Number 1 is relatively easy, assuming you’ve got the spare $700 :-) Number 2 is probably not possible in a typical residential setting. You need a 480v transformer, plus a $7,000 +/- DC FC station, to have DC FC capability. Not something the typical residential setup can accommodate, where 220v with 100-300 amp service is the norm. FWIW, I’m getting my Bolt with DCFC capability, on the theory that more and more public DCFC stations will become available over the next couple of years....and on the theory that it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. :-) I hope this helps!!

Very happy with this purchase and it's a good deal
Very slim design. Very easy to use - just plug it in no button pushed. Quick to charge - about 4 hours to charge up my Nissan Leaf from 15% to 100%. there is a delay button to delay charging by hours. Quick to install - took 1 hour for my electrician to install. It's been 2 months since installation. no problem so far.

        Works Great
I got a Volt in October, and for the first 2 months I charged it at home and at my business with the 120 volt charger. However if my wife needed to run errands or do shopping at work we would not get a full charge which we need since we have a 50 mile commute. I shopped around for 240 volt charges and found this one on sale at home depot. It was a great price and seemed to have good reviews so I purchased it. I have construction and electrical experience so I was able to do the installation at my business myself. I wanted to mount it inside so it would not be exposed to theft or vandalism. My wife had the idea of using a small pet door to run the cord outside to the car. The installation was fairly easy. However, there were a few things that could be a little clearer in the instructions. We have been using it for about 1-1/2 months now and it works great. Charges the car fully in under 4 hours compared to 9+ with the 120 volt charger. We have not had any problems and are very happy with it.

        Great EV charger
Charger does everything it is supposed to. Very easy to install and use. Just plug in and charge! Was very happy to see the cord holder was a heavy duty metal, instead of plastic like expected

        EV-Charging Station
Wired it myself, $500.00 is a great buy (with rebate). Took the 50 amp circuit that was feeding the electric range in my kitchen. So my cost was less than $600.00 installed. And my wife finally got her stainless steel GE gas fired range she has been wanting.

Great level 2 charger for Nissan Leaf
Well made, nice design, heavy duty cord and metal charge plug, not plastic. Had it installed by an electrician. Looks very nice in the garage and charges my Leaf to 100% charge in 5 to 6 hours with low battery vs all night with the trickle charger and sometimes still wasn't fully charged in the morning. This is one of the most affordable chargers I could find and is made by an old reliable company with a great reputation. I highly recommend. Oh and Home Depot is great as always.

Fantastic Value! Excellent EV Charger! Stop overpaying!
I own a 2013 Nissan Leaf. I was getting by using the "opportunity charger" that came with the vehicle, but decided I wanted to upgrade to a 240v/30amp charger. I looked everywhere for the best value. The Schneider EVlink was found to be the best. Everyone else wanted $800-$1000 for a home charger. The Schneider EVlink was by far the least expensive and very highly rated. $599, free shipping and an easy install. (1 hour installation by a certified electrician) This charger simply works perfectly! No extra and unnecessary bells and whistles... simple to use and performs flawlessly! I highly recommend this charger!

Easy to install, sturdy product, good design
Received the product on time from Home depot and installed it in under 1:30hrs. In my garage I already had the 220V 2 pole inwall socket provided by the builder, so that part was easy. I purchased a 220V 6ft cord from Home depot for $25+tax, as well as a 220V, 40A two-pole circuit break for $15+tax as well. To wire the AC input cord all you have to do is simply remove the two tiny screws at the bottom of the face plate, and lift the plate up gently until the tabs on the top pop. The plastic housing is quite sturdy however be gentle with it. Once you open the face plate you will see connector for L1, L2 & ground, remember no neutral wire is required. From your cord that connects to the wall outlet you connect the Red & Black wire to either L1 or L2 and then the Green to ground. Tape the white wire as you dont need it. I recommend you checking the connections on the cord using a multi-meter to ensure that you are connecting L1, L2 & ground only inside. Thats it you are done. You have a level-2 charger up & running. I have used it 3 times now, its charges <2hrs since I usually have about 30- 40% charge remaining on my car. I also use the delay function to charge only after 11:00pm and it works like a charm. Very happy with the purchase and with Home Depot's ontime shipping.

Great charger, more effort needed to install than it should take.
This charger is a good value when it's not on sale and a great value on sale. The design should make it easy to install but the base is plastic and the "knock-outs" require cutting out with a knife and aren't the right size for plastic conduit. It's also very tight at top, so the recommended 8 gauge wire is difficult to bend. No show-stoppers but harder than it needs to be. It comes with a separate bracket to support the cable and "park" the connector when it's not plugged into the car - an EXCELLENT feature. It is also fully-featured for protection and time-of-use.
