Will this work on heavy clay soil?

Asked by Runner May 5, 2020

Yes,it will. The motor and the tines are strong enough to break up the clay soil. The body and handle are made of metal (unlike some others that are plastic) and will not break or chip with heavy-duty use.

How well does this tiller work on very compacted soil?

Asked by Arc September 29, 2019

The tiller will move forward during normal operations, loosening up a layer of compacted soil. For better results, hold the handle firmly and pull backwards. Keeping the tiller at the same spot will allow the tines to dig deeper and break up even the most compacted soil

Very good machine for the job I have to do which is not very big. The weigh is good to maneuver and the design is good for what I have to do. As far as I know Scotts is made in America!

The instructions on how to start the unit were confusing. Here's how to start it: First press and HOLD the start button. Then with your other hand, PULL the orange lever on the handle. Once those 2 items are engaged, the unit will start. Other than that, everything was great. It took about 30 minutes to assemble. As mentioned in the product description, this tiller will do about 8" on a first pass. I needed to do a few passings to get down to 12" to 14" depth.
