Questions & Answers

I just purchased this 4 x 220 ft landscape Fabric 204133

How do you folks respond to all of the negative input on what people are saying is a terrible product.
Asked by: Neonladder
I have used this product for years, of course if you don't put enough mulch or stone down, you are going to end up with some growth, You need to put 3 to 6 inches of what ever you chose to cover your weed barrier. This item is meant to be use in conjunction with other products.

- Can I uset this to control washout of dirt on edge of house pad until grass starts and will grass come thru

Edges of new mobile home pad washing out from all this rain
Asked by: DelMan
It will not because this is used as a weed barrier. They do have products just for wash out problems. It has straw in it and seed will grow through it

Is this just for plants not eatable, or is it for vegetable gardens too. Is there chemicals in it.

Asked by: Tina
It;s a barrier protecting your gardening soil from the weeds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What they said I bought this product and laid it out. The job took me several hours to complete. After ten days we were ready to put in plants. Lo and behold, just as the other reviewers stated, it fell apart just by me stepping on it. Wherever I stepped, it fell apart like it was nothing. This product is total garbage and Home Depot needs to pull it from there shelves. I bought a product from DuPont for the same price elsewhere and it is awesome.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disapointing durability, & poor performance. This material breaks down very quickly - I laid it one weekend but didn't finish covering it with rock. Came back to it a couple of weeks later and the exposed areas were crumbling. Additionally weeds were already coming through the area I had covered with 2+ inches of (large) rock even though the area was completely clear of weeds before laying the fabric. Foolishly, as I already had the material I finished laying the rest of my yard with 2 layers of the fabric and immediately covered with medium rock (thinking it might work better with the smaller rock & double thick). However within a few weeks weeds were already showing through though not as badly as with the larger rock. All above was in the desert and in non irrigated areas. In the irrigated areas where I had feature plants I'd used a different style of fabric which is more like plastic with holes punched in it. This other style of fabric is much more durable - I first laid some several years ago and I don't think a single weed has come through. This other material is not as porous though which may be an issue in some applications.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality fabric Install the product after one week weeds start groving right through fabric now after 4 month I have weeds everywhere , this product is horrible ,should not be sold at the stores now my backyard is disaster

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless This landscape fabric disintegrates after about a week. I've been laying this down to control weeds under landscape rock. Before the rock was spread, the fabric began developing spontaneous tears. It is turning into black paper dust. Literally, after about a week, it cannot withstand any pressure or pull. Garbage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Landscaping fabric weeds grow right through I had 3 rolls of this landscape fabric put down under my hardscape both front and back yard. The weeds and grass are coming up directly through the fabric like it wasn't even there it's only been down for a few weeks and has already failed. I'm at a loss of words for how poor of a product this was. I had less grass before putting this product down; it was down to a dirt lot. But I’ve had 42,000 pounds of rock put down on top of this fabric 22,000 pounds in the front yard and 20,000 in the backyard and it all has grass and weeds growing up straight (through it/through the fabric). How are you expected to fix their defective product after it’s installed? Until they respond on how to make this right and if this is just a defective batch; I would have to warn everyone not to buy this product you’ll regret it in the end.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Weed Block ever Because this is a Scott's product, I expected the quality to be superior. This is the worst weed block that I have ever used, and I use weed block quite frequently. Within a week of laying the weed block, grass was literally growing through the block. Within 2 weeks, the weed block had deteriorated to the extend that it was in shreds -- almost as if it had rotted, although there was no water or other reason for the product to fall apart. I had to purchase another brand and type of weed block and lay it over the Scott's weed block where possible in order to correct the problem, but because I had already used some river rocks and other landscaping materials in places, I would have had to completely dismantle the landscaping to remove or cover the Scott's block product. I am using Grass B Gone and other chemicals to kill out the invading grass and weeds, but the purpose of the weed block was to avoid harsh chemicals. Huge disappointment.
