Grass help

Thank you for your question regarding Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. While the grass seed should begin to germinate in 7 - 14 days, there are several variables that can delay seed germination. Water and soil temperatures are the two most important factors in successful seeding. The newly seeded areas must be kept moist. This may require that you give the seeded areas a light watering two to three times a day for the first few weeks. Keep in mind as well that after you see initial seedlings, seeds will continue to germinate for another week to 3 weeks. After that, you will still need to keep the seedlings watered on a regular basis until they have been mowed at least once. We encourage you to contact us at 888-270-3714 if there is anything else that we can assist you with.

We appreciate your interest in Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. This seed mix is a combination of bluegrass, ryegrass, and fescue. While the ryegrass and fescue should germinate in 2 weeks, it could take 28 days for the bluegrass to come up. Regular mowing and fertilizing will help it mature to its proper color and texture. Please contact us at 877-220-3089 with any other inquiries that you may have, and we will be happy to assist you.

Weeds but no grass
This was the first time I used this product I prepared the soil and add top soil before seeding to patch part of my lawn. After five weeks, I see mainly weeds and no grass growth at all. Disappointing and would not recommend this product.

Sintay, we apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. Seed should not be covered more than 1/4 inch thick or this will smother the seed. You may contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. You may reach us at 877-220-3089 and refer to this product review when calling in. Scotts
Mostly weeds
More weeds than grass are coming up and most of the weeds produce goat heads. Anyone that says stepping on a lego is the worst thing has obviously never stepped on one of those. Thanks for ruining our yard

We apologize that you were not thoroughly satisfied with Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. It is normal to have some weeds germinate when seeding. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Soil preparation brings weed seeds to the surface. We recommend focusing on establishing the lawn first; weeds can be controlled later. A healthy, thick lawn will ward off most weeds. We want you to be confident about our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please call 877-220-3089 for assistance. When calling, please refer to this review. Scotts

Rob, we are sorry to hear of your disappointment with our Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. If the seed was applied too thickly, that could hinder germination. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please call 877-220-3089 for assistance. Rocky soil
Customer review from scotts.com logo
I’m the new grounds keeper at an apartment complex. The owner bought the scotts sun and shade mix. We followed the directions. It’s been about 2 1/2weeks and have yet to see the seeds grow. Ground has gravel and rocks but very good soil. Been watering area since planting twice a day(morning and night on timer). No sign of new grass growth. Getting discouraged. Was looking forward to taking shoes off and walking through grass and being proud of what was accomplished. The owners bought 4 bags.

SCOTTS RUINED MY LAWN
I purchased these grass seeds 6-8 weeks ago and applied them to a clean slate area where I had previously killed the grass and weeds in preparation to start fresh. This is a new construction home and there was minimum grass or weeds as it was predominantly hard clay-like dirt filled with pea gravel. I added new dirt from a landscape company, followed the instructions on the seed bag, watered day and night and the end result is entirely crab grass. Being new to yard work I did believe from the beginning that it did not appear to be grass and began to research online only to find out that although green and fluffy, the entire side of my home is crab grass in addition to the few places where I added the seeds to fill in thinning high traffic areas on my front lawn. I am very sad, disgusted and disappointed as a lot of care, water and time went into this project and now I do not even know what to do...there are too many to pull so it appears I will need to completely start from scratch. I planned to have an Open House in the yard for my 2020 high school graduate (who was not able to have prom or a graduation) in the yard to allow social distancing but under these circumstance I will need to find an alternative. Very Disappointed!!

Taconta, we apologize for this experience with our Scotts Turf Builder Grass Seed Sun and Shade Mix. There are approximately 10,000 weed seeds per 1 cubic foot of native soil. Our WaterSmart PLUS Grass Seed is harvested in June/July, well before the time of crabgrass maturity which occurs during late summer when it sets seed. We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience, please call 877-220-3089 for assistance. When calling, please refer to this review. Scotts

Plenty of work prior to opening bag. I did my research and created my own method. Til, heavy rake rocks, soil, tilled clumps of cheapest soil, grated or flattened area, then seeded and used Scotts starter fert. The results speak for themselves. Eastern Pennsylvania spots that are direcr sunlight and some that are mostly shade this product worked my lawn could have the eagles practice on it Only lets me add on picture so i guess its finished product after 2nd cut. But the befores are straight dirt

Product worked great... followed recommendations on pkg everything went down nicely after the prep work. Have tried putting grass in this partly sunny area with no success, this appears to be the perfect solution, have grass growing finally after five years of.alternative attempts.

Better than water saver
I initially bought watersaver - little grew. The home depot guy recommended this. I’ve been waiting to use, but in meanwhile did an experiment with leftover watersaver seeds. See for yourself. Hope this will help other amateurs like me - so hard to determine what to get by reviews.
