Get your lawn or garden ready for planting with Scotts Premium Topsoil Lawn and Garden Soil Conditioner. This topsoil adds organic matter and sphagnum peat moss to your existing soil to help plants and new grass thrive. Use this product as a lawn soil for planting new grass or as garden soil in new or existing gardens. To condition soil for new lawns, spread 1-2 inches of topsoil into your lawn area and mix into the top 1-2 inches of native soil then level the ground. Water thoroughly after seeding. To condition soil in gardens, spread 2-3 inches of topsoil in new gardens and mix into the top 6-8 inches of native soil then level the ground. In existing gardens, place 1-2 inches of topsoil around plants, spread evenly, and gently mix into the existing soil. Water your new or existing garden thoroughly after application. Manfactruers don't prodive a weight because it varies, but with that said - The average weight of a 0.75 cubic foot bag of topsoil is typically around 35 to 50 pounds, depending on the moisture content.

How many pounds of soil in the bag
As a woman without a lot of upper body strength it would be nice if they could at least give a rough idea of weight so I know if I need to buy another brand that does give the weight so I know if I can pick it up or not.

Does this contain any herbicides like aminopyralid, clopyralid, and piclora, preen, etc.? For growing dahlias.
Since persistent herbicides, such as Aminopyralids, were first introduced over 10 years ago, measures have been put in place to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, the potential for manure contaminated with these herbicides from being used in a soil amendment. We carefully consider where we purchase the manure for our products from and initially screen our suppliers by testing for persistent herbicides.

Most of our soils, especially potting mixes and garden soils, are made of composted forest products. Composted forest products provide high organic content and nutrients without the concern for soil compaction which often occurs with potting mixes composed primarily of actual topsoil. The coarser material allows for air to reach the roots of the plant which improves plant performance. While small pieces of bark and twigs are intentional components of our growing media, including potting soil, garden soil, lawn soil, topsoil, etc., you should not find large pieces of wood or bark.

Typically northeastern areas have more of a compost based mix while southern areas have more of the wood fines and bark based mix. Both work equally well to amend native soils but look different.

While large pieces of bark should be filtered out during processing small pieces of bark are added to our media to improve drainage and prevent the soil from compacting. The addition of this coarser material to our potting mix allows oxygen to reach the roots and improves plant performance.
