Can it kill or damage newly planted lawn which is about 3 weeks Old, if applied to take care of crabgrass growing with the real grass?
Asked by: omomama
Turf Builder Weed & Feed can damage new grass. We do not recommend applying this to newly seeded area until it is growing and been mowed at least 3 times. This product will not control grassy weeds such as crabgrass.

Turf Builder 15 lb. 5,000 sq. ft. Weed and Feed Lawn Fertilizer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 2800.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product really works! I cut the grass Mon. 4/22 and applied the Scott's the next day. It sat undisturbed all day Wednesday but Thursday and Friday it rained off and on. I was worried that it had gotten washed away and wouldn't work but Saturday, to my surprise, the clover started turning brown and the dandelions started shriveling up. I cut it again on Saturday just before it rained and my lawn looks great. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to reapply it simply because it rained right after I put it down and because it takes more than one time to get rid of clover. Over all I think this is a great product and especially if you use it according to directions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're not killing clover your doing it wrong. I have used Scott's products for 15 years if you follow the directions on the bag it works great. If you apply it and you can't see it sticking to weed leaves you have done it wrong. This photo is taken 2 days after application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weed Free Applied this a couple of weeks ago, after we had experienced 3 days in a row of heavy rain. I set our Scott's spreader to 6. That's heavier than the 4 recommended on the bag. The ground was still saturated and the grass was still very wet. As I walked along pushing the spreader, I could see the granules sticking to the wet grass and weeds. That was about 8am. The sun came out in the afternoon, and the lawn started to dry out. I could actually already see some of the weeds starting to slightly wilt! 2 days later, the big weeds we're severely wilted and the clover was brown.i mowed yesterday and it looks like the weeds are all gone now. Worked for me!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weed and Feed that gets the Clover and the Dandelions! This product is awesome. I have uploaded before and after pictures showing 7 days after treatment. I had Clover growing so much that I had to mow more often just to keep up with the clover growth. I treated the lawn with a broadcast spreader set at the NUMBER FIVE setting. That is important because if you use a lower number, you won't get the dramatic results shown in 7 days. I tried it with a setting of 3.5 on a different part of the yard. It curtailed the weed growth, but didn't stop it using an application at 3.5 so I will have to wait 30 days to reapply it to that part of my yard. One other note. I made sure to apply it after a good rain so that I knew the grass and clover was wet. After the application, I could see that it was still stuck to the leaves. Also, I made sure to check the weather forecast to see that there was not going to be rain for 48 hours. This formula is a formula for success in getting the weeds. You can take your yard back and control the weeds!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned lawn. Three days ago I had a beautiful green and lush lawn that I work on very hard to keep looking that way. On Wednesday, I put Scotts Turf Builder weed and feed. I followed the directions perfectly. I actually read them twice to be sure I was following directions. Today, Friday April 19, 2019, I have a lawn that is turning brown and dying. I am beyond upset and frustrated!!! Never again will I use Scotts products. Can someone please give advice to rectify the situation?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This weed and feed lawn care product works. My mistake was applying it too soon after re-seeding ... This weed and feed lawn care product works. My mistake was applying it too soon after re-seeding our backyard with Scotts Thick'r Lawn product and in effect, killed off patches of young tall fescue seedlings. That's okay though, they were replaced by EZ Seed fillers and were repaired in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, applying the Thick'r Lawn product also fed underlying weeds that were growing in our backyard, such as dandelions, clovers, plantains, etc. This Weed & Feed product attacks broad leaf weeds, basically any weed with a wide shaped leaf. The Weed & Feed particulates land on the broad leaves of these weeds and systematically burns them. The effect is quick, literally overnight on clovers. Dandelions started wilting in about 2-3 days. Be sure to moisten your lawn first before applying either by activating the sprinklers or hosing down. The weeds' leaves must be moisten to allow the Weed & Feed granules to stick. If applied correctly, your lawn should be rid of weed in a matter of a week. Be warned, this product WILL kill young seedlings and even burn patches of grass if over spread! It also leaves a noticeable chemical smell once activated with water and it lingers for a few days.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Time Will Tell I’m in a race between the heat and the weeds but so far the weeds in the shade look pretty darned good. The ones in the sun are looking wounded. I bought a new Scott spreader to put this product on. Since the directions called for the grass to be wet,I ran the sprinklers and then used the spreader set on 3 1/2. I noticed the product sticks to the wheels and then drops off in gobs. You can see the track marks from the spreader because the product sticks to the plastic wheels of spreader because grass is wet. When it can’t hold anymore it will drop a white line on your lawn. Which you may or may not notice. Because I only did my backyard, not a weed in the front, I have part of the bag left over which I may just toss out. I haven’t given up hope yet but I am not at all pleased with the application process and how it sticks to the spreader.
