I live in Houston where temperatures are consistently in the 90s in the summer. Is it still safe to apply this product in July/August to St. Augustine grass? Will it burn my grass if applied correctly during that period?
Asked by: BigWednesday96

Turf Builder 28 lb. 12,000 sq. ft. Summer Lawn Fertilizer is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 91.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what the lawn doctor ordered I will apply this to my lawn today and then should get off-and-on rain for the next several days. The only ingredient I need is nitrogen (34-0-0) plus slow water absorption. This should fit the bill. I have 2 acres but only 1/3 is lawn. I will advise results in 3-4 weeks.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor / Unexpected Results Applied at 2/3 rate and after one week turned a picture perfect lawn into a blotchy lawn with yellow patches. I advised our lawn service we applied Scotts Summer Turf Builder and he mentioned there has been numerous complaints with similar results. I confirmed on the internet. I have been using Scotts products for over thirty years and this is very disappointing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used this to try to fill in some bare areas. Used this product last late Summer and Fall to try to fill in bare areas. It did help some, but it was so hot and dry that it was almost pointless. Once it cooled off a bit, the grass did start growing; before the first freeze shut it down. But the product worked. I got it primarily for the water saver features (CA is always in a state of drought). You should apply to a dry lawn with a second application after 6 weeks. I am almost 3 weeks into the product for my back yard and the grass is green; no yellowing or dry spots! It says that if you water 30 minutes a week, to reduce to 20 minutes. If that still produces green grass, you can cut it down further to 15 minutes. For my lawn, I stayed with the 20 minutes with little to no dryness in the grass. So it appears to have worked. This is a summer blend. I am writing this in mid-spring when we have morning dew on the lawn; so that helps with moisture. The second feeding will be at the beginning of summer. It can be spread with any of Scott's feeders/seeders. It can cover up to 12,000 square feet. So for my yard, one bag can last all summer long with four total feedings over 18 weeks and still have a little left over. The product is 34% nitrogen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lawn The Summer Lawn Food worked really well on our yard. It was quite easy to spread with spreader (got my steps in). We tend to have very hot summers here, and this captured the sprinkler water from morning and aided with making a much healthier lawn for us. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not sure about spreader setting recommendation I just applied this today so im giving it five stars based on history with Scott products. I’ve been following the Scotts lawn act for three years and have been very happy, lawn looks amazing. Normally this time of year it would have me apply Scott’s green max tm lawn food, but this year it recommended Scott’s turfbuilder summer lawn food. My lot is 17000+ sf, house is around 3000, pool deck around 3000, so with driveway I figure around 10000 sf. I try not to overfertilize, sometimes I have some leftover, sometimes I’m short, but it usually works out. Since this product comes in 4000 I had to buy three bags. I use a Scott’s speedy green 3000 so I set it to 4 as recommended. No way is this accurate! The grains are huge and the product came out very slowly. After finishing the front yard the spreader was still very full. When I got to the backyard I changed the setting to 5 and it seemed to flow much better. After finishing the back I returned to the front yard and switched it back to 4 because I was afraid of over doing it and I re did the front yard. I ended up with about 3/4 of a bag leftover. I hope you guys figure this out.
