I have crab grass and dandelions. Should I purchase both the halts crabgrass and the weed and feed for dandelions?
Asked by: Jimmy
The turf builder with the Haltz Crabgrass preventer is just that for crabgrass. I could be wrong but I don't believe it will work on the weeds. You do need to get the crabgrass preventer done before it gets warm because if the crabgrass starts growing, you will be wasting your time and money. Then when the weeds and dandelions start up, you can then put on the weed and feed. The weed and feed needs to stick to the weeds in order to work. The crabgrass goes right into the soil and kills the crabgrass before it has a chance to start. Hope that helps.

How many times during the season.

I used this product last year and it worked great up until July. I started in early March, so can I use 2 applications in a single season? if so, how long should I wait?

Can I apply the Crabgrass Halt in conjunction with an granule based insecticide? If not, How do I have to wait?

I have lots of nasty bugs in early spring like ticks and fleas, as this would be first time applying the halts, I would like to get some guidance on what order to follow and time lapse, if they cannot be applied together. Thanks in advance!

Is it pet safe?????

Asked by: Jamie70
We recommend that you keep pets and your family out of the area while the product is being applied. Water the application in. Once the treated area has dried, your pets and family can be back in the lawn.

Turf Builder 40.5 lb. 15,000 sq. ft. Crabgrass Preventer Lawn Fertilizer is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 1669.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice sturdy bag as well as easy to identify stacked... Nice sturdy bag as well as easy to identify stacked next to the other brands. The seed was a wonderful orange color and looked amazing in my Scotts spreader! It applied so gently and I'm now anxiously waiting for my grass to grow and turn that brilliant shade of green that Scotts is known for. I happened to notice a neighbor was having their yard treated by a well known lawn company while I was applying my treatment and the service tech had a very defeated look on his face when he saw me applying Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food with Crabgrass preventer. I have a feeling after they see my lawn in a few weeks, they will be cutting ties with that company and applying only Scotts products to their lawn. I'm already in the process of saving for my next bag of Scotts Turf Builder with Weed and Feed as well as a bag of Grub-Ex. There's a reason the skid of Scotts fertilizer is always half that of all the other brands. Funny thought that crossed my mind... I was watching the Masters recently and kept thinking to myself if Scotts is what they use on the grass there....? Thanks to Scotts products, I really feel like I'm dominating the yard game and will for many years to come!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless product I applied the product (crabgrass pre-emergent) as directed. It’s now the end of April and half of my front yard is crabgrass. As far as I’m concerned, the pre-emergent did nothing. Note: I’ve been taking care of lawns for 30 years, so it’s not like I’m a novice. I will never use a Scott’s product again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't work I followed directions on the bag and let it stand on the lawn for 3 days before the irrigation came. Two weeks later the lawn did green up a little but the crab grass is as healthy as ever with no signs of dying. What am I missing ?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed in this Scott’s product Bought this step-1 product last weekend for $63, to give it a try, and applied today. Got half way thru, and spreader rotor had gotten blicked by a chunk of orange material/product. Now I don’t know how much treatment the lawn got. I’ve seen chunks before, but they usually break up in the spreader. I’ve never had this issue with the normal turf builder, or lawn food. Very disappointing start to the season !! Now I have to wait & see... Another thing, I barely got any on my hands (pulling out the clump) - but the orange stuck to my hands, and was hard to get off. I will not use the orange product again, and will not recommend it. MLawson

I spread it on my lawn and I can tell you how good it is in a few weeks. Your request for an evaluation is very premature! Whether I purchase it again will depend..... I gave it an average rating because it is not fair to extol its virtues nor is it fair to give it a poor rating at this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbelievable results in my yard I had a lawn service for a couple years, but there was a 4 application minimum as well as requiring add-ons like crabgrass control and grub control. Needless to say the service was getting out of control in terms if cost, so I tried Scott's Halt. Prior, I started getting patches of crabgrass around my yard, not bad, but I only for saw it getting worse as time went on. I applied one application last spring, and that's it! and I couldn't believe the results. Of the 5 or 6 areas I had crabgrass, all were crabgrass free the entire year. The only place I had it was in the small sliver of lawn that I missed with my drop spreadder. I never had a single dandelion or visible grub damage either...although I'm pretty sure the product doesnt say anything about grub control, it may have been coincidence. I imagine results vary depending on the species of crabgrass but whatever I have here in SE Michigan was totally taken care of in one application in the spring. Im totally sold on this product and think it's well worth the price.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product was wet inside all clumped up unable to use.... Product was wet inside all clumped up unable to use. After having to dump the product from the spreader back into the bag, witch was not easy, I returned it for another bag that felt fine from the outside but was also damp and clumped inside. I was able to use 90% of the product but not with out constant stopping to break up clumps and stir the spreader. Manufacture needs to come up with a better bag or Home Depot needs to keep them out of the rain. It made an hour job take about 4 hours to complete.
