Questions & Answers

Does this product kill the dandelion flower as well as the root?

Asked by: RayJay
Yes, Scotts Turf Builder Weed & Feed kills the weeds to the root. The active ingredients interfere with growth regulation causing the weed to grow itself to death.

Each Fall and in 2015 Ioverseeded. Probably 80% of the Scoots seed is coming up. I have crab grass, clover and chickweed. What product should I be applying this weekend, 4/15/17? No rain in the forecast for next few days. I have a large lawn, am on a well, and watering is not an option.

Customer Reviews

Turf Builder 42.87 lb. 15,000 sq. ft. with Plus 2 Weed Control Lawn Fertilizer is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 630.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dandelions The Kind of Grass i have is a regular basic green grass this year had alot of dandelions coming up so i wanted something for the front of my house now mind you half my grass in the front of the house is that Hay Grass. so i only wanted to put this stuff where the dandelions were . it Says wet grass first then dont water for 24 hours. so i just wet the grass first and spread Scotts where only the dandelions were. this was Yesterday Morning (Sunday) by Sunday night they looked all wilted... and by Monday morning they looked like they were sick LOL . So i would say yes it is working It is suppose to rain here in NY Tuesday so I will wait an see what happens... but i would give it a two thumbs up!! The only thing is when using the spreader it spread far and got in to some of the dirt where my plants were I brushed most of it off because it doesn't say if it will kill your plants ??? and I really dont want to find out ... so i took a broom and brushed the dirt ... we shall see ..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for me I rarely use fertilizers and when I have, I bought the cheapest thing I could find. This time I chose to get something better. Besides the review here, I read many others on other sites. My front lawn was a poor shade of green with many dandelions. I mowed the lawn, watered it, and then put down the Scotts. Within a week I was down to 1 or 2 scrawny dandelions - which later "went away". The grass was a nicer green, except where I had some (unwanted) moss, which turned yellow - now it was easier to find! This stuff worked great for me and I will buy more later in the season (or if it goes on sale).

Rated 2 out of 5 by from My first lawn I grew up helping my father with his lawn as a child using Scotts products. When my wife and I bought our first house earlier this year I was SUPER excited to have a great lawn. I debated between the Turf Builder/Weed Control and a few other products. After talking with a few gardening employees and also with Scotts online support chat, I went with the Turf Builder/Weed Control. Followed the instructions exactly. 4 days after I put it down we had significant, saturating rain over 2 days. And so far, the only thing that seems to have happened is that the weeds are growing stronger, not browning, and my grass only looks slightly greener, which it normally does after a strong rain. I'm hesitant to say this product was useless, but I wouldn't say that it has done any noticeable benefit (especially given the cost vs. doing nothing). When I fertilize next time later this summer, I will probably stick with Scotts, but when I start over next year, I may look at other brands.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Would not recommend I used Scotts EZ seed to grow my lawn - it was awesome - works like it should! I followed up with their fertilizer with Iron and my lawn looked great. Since their products were working superb, I decided this year I wanted to follow their regimen and after my first spring fertilizer, 8 weeks later I used weed & feed. I did this about 7 weeks ago and am highly disappointed as I have more weeds than I ever had in the 5 years that I lived here!!! the majority of my lawn is now overrun with crab grass which I have never ever had. DO NOT use this product, Ive read other comments that this happened but against my better judgement I figured since the other 2 products I used were great that this possible couldnt happen. All in all $150 spend to have a great lawn is now overrun with weeds. I was going to use the summer guard but im afraid after I use that my lawn will be infersted with bugs (as this product says it should repel against bugs). Very upsetting and I guess I have to start from scratch with a new company

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great This stuff works great. Our lawn was COVERED with dandelions. We applied this in May. Within days the dandelions were totally gone. It's now late June and the dandelions have yet to come back! I will definitely be using this product next year, and highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product has never failed my lawn I began following the Scotts plan roughly ten years ago. After two years of listening to various neighbors’ well intended advice on different brands, I decided to stick with Scotts and follow (ALL) of the suggested treatments. I am fully satisfied with all of the treatments that I use for my lawn; however, the Turf Builder Plus 2 With Weed Control works well as a secondary feeding and also clears the lawn completely of all undesirable and unsightly weeds. It is not uncommon for motorists and pedestrians alike to stop me during my mowing and ask which company I use to treat my grass. They are usually shocked to learn that the conditions are the results of products that I apply myself. The application directions are clear presented on the back of the bag and are safe and easy to follow. Within a few minutes, after a light watering of the lawn, the process is complete and results usually are noticeable within a few days. Greta product – strongly recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not very impressive I followed the instructions to a "T" and did not have much success with this product. I was especially disappointed with the weed control. This product appeared to have no effect on chickweed (very common in VT) and had limited effect on other common weeds. To be effective, the weeds had to be covered with the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Generally effective, except against prostrate spurge This is my primary offense against weeds during the year. It has been very effective at eliminating dandelions, field bindweed (wild morning glory), and other broadleaf weeds that pop up during the summer in my bluegrass Kansas City lawn. Once issue is that it is very difficult to find a time to apply it in the summer. It should not be applied when daytime highs are above 90, when rain is expected in the next day or two, and within two days of mowing (before or after). That does not leave many options during mid-summer, when many weeds are starting to stage an offense on the year. It also does not seem to do a very good job with prostrate spurge. It slows it down, but does not seem to get rid of it. And of course, yellow nutsedge laughs in its face. Dismiss herbicide did a very good job with the nutsedge, and whacked the prostrate spurge back pretty good, too, so I am adding that to my weed fighting arsenal now each year.
