Questions & Answers

Can this product burn or kill your yard if you apply to much.

Asked by: Rattler
I applied a "heavier" amount in certain sections of my lawn where the dandelion population was excessive. It did not produce any negative results on my lawn. But you should probably follow the directions as indicated.

What is the purpose of Zero Phosphorus?

Asked by: WillyDFn
Once phosphorous is applied to the soil it can bond with other molecules to form insoluble compounds. In this form, it is virtually impossible to remove. Since many people apply "complete" N-P-K fertilizer every year, it builds up in the soil and often becomes problematic. The same sort of thing often happens with lime - annual application can make your soil too alkaline. The truth is, you should never apply anything to your soil unless you know that it needs it. The easiest way to determine this is to do a soil test. Your local Department of Agriculture will probably analyze soil samples for free or inexpensively, depending on the time of the year. Contact them for instructions and test sample boxes.

Customer Reviews

Turf Builder 43 lb. 15,000 sq. ft. Weed and Feed Lawn Fertilizer is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 1507.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product really works! I cut the grass Mon. 4/22 and applied the Scott's the next day. It sat undisturbed all day Wednesday but Thursday and Friday it rained off and on. I was worried that it had gotten washed away and wouldn't work but Saturday, to my surprise, the clover started turning brown and the dandelions started shriveling up. I cut it again on Saturday just before it rained and my lawn looks great. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to reapply it simply because it rained right after I put it down and because it takes more than one time to get rid of clover. Over all I think this is a great product and especially if you use it according to directions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you're not killing clover your doing it wrong. I have used Scott's products for 15 years if you follow the directions on the bag it works great. If you apply it and you can't see it sticking to weed leaves you have done it wrong. This photo is taken 2 days after application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weed Free Applied this a couple of weeks ago, after we had experienced 3 days in a row of heavy rain. I set our Scott's spreader to 6. That's heavier than the 4 recommended on the bag. The ground was still saturated and the grass was still very wet. As I walked along pushing the spreader, I could see the granules sticking to the wet grass and weeds. That was about 8am. The sun came out in the afternoon, and the lawn started to dry out. I could actually already see some of the weeds starting to slightly wilt! 2 days later, the big weeds we're severely wilted and the clover was brown.i mowed yesterday and it looks like the weeds are all gone now. Worked for me!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Burned lawn. Three days ago I had a beautiful green and lush lawn that I work on very hard to keep looking that way. On Wednesday, I put Scotts Turf Builder weed and feed. I followed the directions perfectly. I actually read them twice to be sure I was following directions. Today, Friday April 19, 2019, I have a lawn that is turning brown and dying. I am beyond upset and frustrated!!! Never again will I use Scotts products. Can someone please give advice to rectify the situation?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as it says No more little purple flowers in the yard! Does just what it’s supposed to. Very happy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does Not Kill Clover I have always used Scotts fertilizer, it is the best. I tried the Turf Builder Weed and Feed because it states it "Clears Out Clover". I applied it as directed in May 2018, when the grass was still wet and it stuck to the clover leaves. It did kill the dandelions but it nothing to the clover. Not one clover leaf even shriveled up, stayed the same throughout the summer. Will never use this product again for clover. Zoom in on the photo (if I can get it to load) and you can see the product on the clover leaves!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good results!! I bought 2 bags of this stuff and I seriously feel like I wasted my money! I followed the package directions exactly! It’s been two weeks, weeds are still growing and very much alive. A few of them shriveled up but remained green in the center and continued to grow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it!! Used Scott's weed & feed on my back lawn as the first application of the season. My grass thickened up. First time ever, no dandelions or clover. Just a heads up, I also applied Scott's weed and feed right before winter last year so I guess the combined late fall and early spring applications worked really well.
