Can I trim door to a height of 76"?

Asked by: rick
i modified mine , I cut it down 4 inches under the header cut both sides to desired length , also was able to shorten the screen . I dowel the wood and glued with wood glue , I took the extra step an reinforced with metal L brackets . I used sliding top mounts so the door slides . its been up for 2 years no problems. this is in a 4 season state .

What is PetGuard

Is is on both side of the door? What part of the door does it cover?
Asked by: ralph
It's hard to see in the picture, but in addition to the regular screen door mesh, there is also a metal grate. The grating is in a diamond pattern and is made of sturdy lightweight metal that has some give to it. So even if your pets could shred the mesh, they won't be able to get through the grating.

PetGuard Series 36 in. x 80 in. Wood Century Screen Door is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 23.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from extremely poor construction ok, so the reviews are pretty bad on this product (which I knew up front), but I figured, it's a wood screen door, what do you want? When I unscrewed the screen to prep for painting (as explicitly instructed), TWO of the 6 joints fell apart SPONANEOUSLY ( no bumping, etc). Closer inspection showed that the joints had only ONE dowel each, although TWO dowel holes had been drilled. There was NO trace of glue or other adhesive to hold the joint or the dowels in place. This is extremely poor manufacturing and an embarrassment to whoever put this together and shipped it. Even at the "attractive" price of $50, this was easily the worst quality product I have ever bought at Home Depot. I did contact the manufacturer three days ago, but have not heard back. Even kindling has higher manufacturing standards.

Had to remove both the screen and pet guard in order to seal and paint. Screen is very flimsy when removed, be careful handling it. Wood joints were very poor and required wood filler in order to close gaps before painting. The screen is on the inside so adding a closer takes some ingenuity. If you are not in a hurry, this door will suffice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolute garbage! This door is so poorly made, the joints have failed within a month, and the frame is totally loose. The corner of the opening side now rests on the floor of our deck, making opening and closing it difficult, but if we were to plane it down it would just sag again because the frame is so loose. This door is only good for kindling, we would return it except we have put L brackets in all the corners trying to reinforce the door and prevent the sagging, but even that didn't work! Do not buy this door, it is not useable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible contruction When I hung this door on my new screened in porch it started to warp the first day and never sealed. After a week the bottom piece started to separate from the rest of the door and now it won't close at all because it is falling apart. Very disappointed, spend a little more money and get a better quality door. I guess I will burn it to stay warm.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this door...unless you need firewood This door looks nice and seems to be fairly well constructed, but don't do it. I purchased (2) for my covered screened in porch. I took them home, lightly sanded them, stained and sealed (2) coats of quality oil based product. I installed them and they looked good for about a week. Then came the warping. The hinge side was fine, but the strike side bent like a bow (about 2 inches away from the jamb on the top and bottom corners. This is not all that uncommon for wood doors that are left unfinished in moist weather and/or direct sunlight, but mine are 100% sealed well, very low humidity, no rain and covered out of the sun. Often times you can apply moist towels and weight on a flat surface and straighten them out. I did and also reinforced the entire length of the door with angle iron to help prevent this from happening again. No dice - the door warped back and bent the metal also to my surprise. Hard to keep insects out of a screened porch designed to keep insects out when the door has 2 inch gaps at top and bottom. Then on top of it all Home Depot will not return it for credit because it was stained, however, if left unfinished...it would likely be worse than it already is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money Poor construction and materials. I bought three to use on a gazebo. Although they all had the same stock number, only one had an aluminum framed screen, the other two had some type of plastic strip to secure the screen. When the screen was removed to paint the door as per the instructions, it was difficult to reinstall and maintain tension of the screen. Several screen mounting screws on each door were stripped and the door frames was split where the pet guard was mounted.
