Customer Reviews

40 in. x 81.5 in. White Retractable Screen Door is rated 1.6 out of 5 by 47.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Exceptionally poor written instructions!!! While this maybe a decent product, it will only take critical error to make it $150.00 pile of trash. The written directions are missing much in the way of valuable information. They rely heavily on a very low quality grainy gray and white image to provide the missing information. I had been told that this product was harder to install by the Home Depot Rep. I wished that I had listen to them and purchase the cheaper model. For once it is cut you have bought it and there is no return. You simply are left with buying the part again, and praying you do not make the same mistake twice. The instructions are specific about measuring twice and cutting once. However, it does not tell you to subtract the length of the "Track End-caps" from the measure before cutting. If you do not do this your cut will be 1.25" short. Bottom Line: buy the cheaper model so that at least you will not be wasting as much money. W. D.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Multiple defects found during installation After nearly a month of trying to install dual retractable screen doors, I finally returned both doors to Home Depot. First, there was a missing bracket gasket. I had to wait several days for the gasket to be shipped. One of the doors wouldn't slide easily. The screen would bind and rip at the edges. After several days of trying to troubleshoot, I finally noticed that the sill gasket slot was narrower than the others. I called to get a replacement, but the company charged me $45 for the silk/too rail kit with shipping. After waiting for these parts to arrive, the next problem encountered was that one door would not engage the counter balance string in the dual end cap. Defective end caps and defective connector on the bracket. I requested replacement parts that never arrived. Quite a miserable experience.

Don't waste your time or money on this poorly designed retractable screen door. The instructions aren't worth the paper they are printed on. The video isn't much better. The sharp edges on the upper horizontal guide cut the screen. There are other retractable screen doors available that are easier to install and won't self destruct .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible Instructions. The pictures are so dark it's hard to tell what is going on. I bought 2 of... Horrible Instructions. The pictures are so dark it's hard to tell what is going on. I bought 2 of these to use with a double door - as the box plainly states is possible except there are NO instructions on how to assemble them together! There were NO parts list in either box and the instructions reference parts numbers??!! A link on their website for instruction manuals lead to fireplace manuals! I should have paid attention to the other poor reviews. How does a company stay in business like this?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fit This has been a good renovation to our house. We didn't want to mount a regular screen door as it would take away from the look of the entry door and overall look of the house. We were looking for something that could roll out when we needed it and roll away when we didn't. This screen door fits our needs perfectly. We were worried about our trim as it is rather fancy, but it seems that the folks who make this have thought it thru with their special screws. Word of advice: take your time and read the instructions or better yet watch the video. I couldn't imagine trying to install this door without doing that first. I would definitely recommend this door to all my friends.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from JUNK Worst purchase I ever made from home depot ...... I think they should pull it from there inventory ! It was pretty easy to install but after that it started to fall apart immediately ....... screen would not track properly and bunch up while trying to retract it back into housing . After just a few opening and closings the housing kept coming undone from it's mounting bracket . I'm pulling it off my house and taking it back to home depot .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from What a waste of $144 plus tax plus way too much effort. On impulse I bought this retractable screen door because I needed something to fit into a tight space. Now I wish I had read the reviews first. (1) The mounting side tongue slid into the mounting panel groove at the top for a few inches but refused to slide in any further, and yes the mounting panel was square. (2) Sliding the top bar into the side bar was impossible -- no way to fit it. And yes, an experienced carpenter installed (or tried to) install this door for me. (3) The screen itself is only attached at the sides, not the top or bottom, so protection against creepy-crawlies is nil.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst retractable screen door on the market It's quite possible that this is the very worst retractable screen door ever designed. The traction mechanism relies on a spring similar a rolling blind, which you must tighten to just the right tension in order to get it to retract. To hold it closed, there are end caps on the tracks that catch onto little buttons on the top and bottom of the sliding bar. There are also little plastic buttons attached to the screen at the top and bottom of the length of the screen. This was broken when I bought it. When I finally got the replacement parts and installed the door (which took much longer than it should, due to the laughably awful and even incorrect in places instructions - I had to switch between the double door and single door instructions to get the correct installation on a single door), I noticed the top and bottom of the screen were torn away slightly from the door handle. I tried to repair them but the way the screen is attached to the sliding bar makes it impossible. Their marketing videos show a nice, smooth sliding door, but in reality, unless you grab the slider bar at just the right height and angle, with just the right pressure, the whole thing will get unstable and you'll have to recoil the screen manually or else fight with the door to get it opened/closed. You also have to do it at just the right speed, or else the screen will bunch up. Within a day one of the plastic buttons that keeps the screen in the track had ripped off. I installed it according to instructions, used a level, did everything right according to the instructions, but that cannot overcome a poor design. I had to coil the spring every day on the days that it was working. WIthin three days, the part that is supposed to catch at the top and bottom got stuck on the bottom, and in trying to get it unstuck, I didn't even pull very hard, and the whole bottom of the slider bar fell into pieces and the bottom of the screen ripped about six inches. There is no way to repair the screen. It's now essentially a very expensive piece of junk. If you're going to get a retractable screen door, try the magnet versions before you try this one. Just don't bother with this. Even those cheap double flap screen doors are better than this.
