A:  anon, The 12 Volt Twin Socket Splitter with Lighter plug only provides power for an additional device from your car cigarette lighter plug. My Mini HD Car Camera Recorder draws minimal current when operating from the lighter plug. I see no reason to think that a second camera could not be powered by the cigarette lighter plug. I do not have two of the cameras to test this configuration but, electrically, there is nothing to keep it from working. Doc766

A:  You need 1 adapter per camera.

    by|Feb 6, 2019

A:  Yes they will, the 2 cameras dont draw a lot of amps/volts, there should be more than ample power on a cigarette lighter circuit. You could probably run 5 or 6 of them off the same plugs if you wanted to for some reason.

This is my first dash-cam. I purchase it before my trip to Canada, the delivery was right on time. Initially opening the pack i was apprehensive about the size but cant believe this compact size has all the required features. It's quite easy to install just attach the suction cup next to your rear view mirror and plug the wire in cigarette lighter plug, camera turns on when the ignition is on. The HD 1080 picture quality during the day and night is excellent. The area coverage in the picture/video is wide with 120 degree. It has capacity to loop record in 30sec, 3mins and 5mins. I preferred 5mins. Also i bought 32GB micoSD card which had good capacity to record the video, you may download video on your computer or leave it for auto overwrite recording. It has 3 recording options like auto recording, motion detection and manual recording. The audio in the recording was quite clear as well. This is the best dash camera at an affordable price. I might buy another one for my 2nd car. Really happy with this purchase.

Having used a "Cheep-o-Deluxe" dash cam for a year or two, it's mount fell apart, so I had to replace the dashcam. I was attracted to the appearance of SecurityMan, appreciated its price, and ordered it. When it arrived, I did the typical man-thing (try to use it without reading the instructions), and found that it wasn't as intuitive as I had hoped. But having read the instructions, I was able to get it set up. Today was the first time I used it, and I am very impressed with its audio/video quality. I appreciate that it's easily removed from its mount for transferring the videos to a computer.

Poor quality and will not work out of the box.
I was very bummed to open this car camera package and see that it isn't a quality camera and the accessories are poorly made. The manufacturer doesn't even supply a simple memory card with the camera. Not even internal memory! Unless you already know this fact, you'd have to go back to the store to buy a memory card. The power adapter cable didn't even work. I tried it on a second car and it didn't power on. Most of the items I review are quality made, however, this unit seems like it was rushed through concept and production. I used an iPhone charger instead to power on the camera with the other USB cable and thought the lens angle was extremely narrow, the screen quality was 90's era resolution, and the menu seemed clumsy. There are far better products on the market. I don't recommend this product.

The USB cable that we provide is for “PC data transfer” only and not for powering the camera.

USB powered outlets do not provide the same amount of current as the cigarette port and may be the reason why the camera isn’t working to full performance.

Good product but has a frustrating user interface for set up
Since California changed it's driver license laws, hit and runs by motorists with a driver's license but no insurance has rocketed here in the Los Angeles area, so we decided to try out this in-car camera in the hope that if we are involved in any accidents, we can revert to the video and get license plate details etc. We've been using it for six months now with zero problems and it provides peace of mind each time we get into the car to go somewhere. I set it to record video at full HD resolution (1920 x 1080) at 24 frames/second. If there is ever any incident, I think this will be the best format to analyze for license plate detail etc. even though it produces slightly choppy video due to the low frame rate (TV shows are 30 frames/second for comparison). It is worth pointing out that the picture quality from the camera is better than the picture quality on the YouTube video due to YouTube's video compression techniques. The reason I have given it 3 stars instead of a higher score is due to the awful user interface that you have to endure in order to get the product set up in the first place. It can become so frustrating at times that you may be tempted to put it back in the box and return it to the store. Once you have mastered it however, the product is reliable, but getting through the set up is a pain in the neck. This is a product that is crying out for a downloadable PC widget app that can be used to program it without having to thumb through the tiny buttons and on screen menus. It already comes with a USB connector so programming it with a simple PC interface shouldn't be too much of a stretch. As a for instance, after setting the date/time, it reset itself when the battery drained and getting through the menus to correct the date was a tortuous process as I had the motion detection switched on which made the camera start recording immediately I moved it in my hand while pressing the menu buttons, making it a challenge to switch the camera record off so I could activate the menu button. Part of the issue may well be that the unit lasts a few minutes before draining the on board battery if it is used without power. I tried plugging it into my PC USB port to get power however as soon as it sees a PC, it assumes you're trying to download video or pictures to the PC and all the set up functions become unavailable. Again, poor design by the product designers. Before you begin trudging through the User Interface to set it up, you will need to buy a Micro SD card for the camera to store the images on. The maximum sized card it can take is 32Mb and they're readily available online at EBay or Amazon etc. Unfortunately there is no diagram that shows the orientation of the MicroSD card for correct insertion into the camera so check out the picture below if you are struggling with this. In the end, I set the camera to power up and start recording when it gets power. The camera comes with a circular 12 volt car adapter that can be plugged into the cigarette lighter/power outlet. The adapter has several feet of cable so it can be run in the trim around the windshield however in our case, I didn't want to mess around shoving the power cable under the windshield trim panels and we let it hang down from the rear view mirror area and plug it into the cigarette lighter socket below when we use it and unplug it afterwards. In terms of installation, I purposely installed it on windshield the passenger side of the rear view mirror as I found that this obstructs my view of the camera's small display screen and doesn't distract me when I'm driving. The suction cup works effectively and the unit hasn't fallen off the windshield in 6 months of use. There are also some lockable adjusters that allow you to set the optimal camera angles to take account of different windshield angles. I also experimented with the motion detection setting. When the car comes to a stop for a few seconds at traffic lights for example, the recording switches off and then reactivates when the vehicle starts moving again. The only issue I found with this was that the camera takes a few seconds to begin recording after you start moving again and this could result in it missing some incidents. For instance, I was making a protected left turn when the driver in opposing traffic decided to make a right while I was halfway around the turn. I thought that it would be a great example of video to include in the review however I found that the camera hadn't restarted the recording quickly enough after we began moving to capture the other driver turning into our lane so I switched the motion detection off. While you can use it in camera mode however the buttons are so small that it is somewhat impractical so it is better to use this in video mode as that is where we found it to be most useful. In the video I attached to this review, you can see examples of how the camera performs at different times of day with sun low in the sky in the morning, in the evening and also at night. The unit has an 'infra red' night vision mode however I found it worked fine with the normal color mode. As you can see from the video, the sun will wash out some of the detail if it is low in the sky, and the camera sensor created a black dot over the sun itself. The bottom line is that this works well as an in-car camera and provides added peace of mind for driving incidents. The set up process is painful however thankfully this only needs to be done once unless the battery gets drained. The battery life without power is way too short and I'd rather pay a few dollars more for a longer life backup battery.

          CARCAM-SDEII: Great product.
It is easy to setup and connect. The video looks sharp on the day time and it looks dim at night or low light. On the day time, I can see the license plate of the car right in front of my car, but not the car on the side or the car a few cars away in front. It records in multiple 30-sec video clips as default. I changed it to 3-min video clips with highest resolution. The housing is all plastic, so not sure if it can stand the heat from the sun after a long use. I also have to be very careful to handle it because I am afraid it may crack or be broken. I can get a better dash cam if I pay more. So for the price, this dash cam is great.

          Works as advertised.
I couldn't believe how small the camera was when I unboxed it. After flipping through the manual, I plugged it into the cigarette lighter of my car and customized the settings. It was very easy. The camera also comes with a mini usb cord, but it is very short. There is nothing in the manual about what it is for, but I used it to plug the camera into a battery pack, the kind they sell for recharging your cell phone. This allowed the camera to stay on when the car was off. That way, with the motion detection set to 'on,' it could be used for vandalism surveillance. Please note that the camera requires a micro SD card class 4 or higher, which is not included. While the screen on the camera is small and not really good to replay footage, its easy to view the video files on a computer with an SD slot. When the impact sensor is engaged, it locks the video files when it senses an impact, so that it does not accidentally get overwritten. A great device.

          Cool concept, fails to deliver
I love the concept and was super excited to install this in my car. Unfortunately, it completely fails to deliver on it's promises. I left all the settings at factory default (1080p). Watching the playback this is clearly not 1080p, I can see pixelation in every frame. More frustratingly though, it has a MASSIVE focus problem. You can see in the attached pictures that any video while in motion, is completely unusable. Video while stopped is a little better - but not much. I mounted it behind my rear view mirror high in the center of the dash. The suction cup provided is very strong and shows no signs of slipping after a few weeks of use. I routed the USB cable across the windshield (under the rubber trim), down the A-pillar (pushed under the lip of the plastic trim), and across the bottom of the dash (pushed under the plastic trim). The cable is very thin and easy to hide, and very long... I had about 2 extra feet when I was done. I wish the USB cable was just a regular cable though, and not one with a permanent cigarette lighter plug mounted to it. I already was using the plug for a USB hub that can power multiple devices. I'm giving it a 3/5 because it still has some purpose, but fails to deliver on it's primary function. Hopefully a software update in the future can fix the focus problem.

          Works ok but blurry sometimes
This cam is easy to connect and mount. It comes with about 14 feet of power wire, and will easily reach a 12v source on the dashboard. It is not long enough to reach an 'alternative' source; I tried to route it to a out-of-the-way plug in my small car and it would not reach. The mount is satisfactory, and has good adjustment range. The suction cup is excellent and holds tight. Overall quality is ok. There are some available adjustments, but you can pretty much use it out of the box. It does not come with a memory card. It has a built in battery, but I'm not sure why, because the camera shuts off when you turn off the car. It seems like it should keep running on the battery for a few minutes, and then shut off, so it can capture events when you are exiting the vehicle. I did not see any benefit to the IR light and 'night' function. The IR light useable range is maybe 5 feet at best, and it is a narrow beam. When mounted on a windshield, it's pointless because the light does not even reach the end of the hood. Overall image quality is good when it is good - that is the problem I had. At times, the image was sharp, other times it was blurry. I could drive to the store, and it would be sharp; then on the return trip home, it would be super blurry. Since there is no focus adjustment, I can only assume it was due to the optics shifting from vibration, or perhaps the heat inside the car. Transferring video to PC is easy, either remove the memory card, or use the included USB cable. A standard 8GB card holds plenty of video. There is a loud chime every time you start up or turn off your car. The preview screen also comes on, and although it shuts off after a minute, it would be nice if the whole thing powered up without all the noise and lights, especially at night. A simple flashing light would be sufficient.

Excellent video quality, but camera is not reliable
This is a cute carcam with plenty of features and setting options. Although this camera has high quality video, I would prefer a carcam that works without shutting down every few minutes. This product is fun to have, but I certainly would not trust it to capture any important video clips. PROS: -High Definition Video is crisp and clear -Lots of settings and options -Long power cord -Suction cup locks securely on windshield -Microphone can be turned on or off CONS: -Power cord does not stay securely in camera usb socket, so it runs mostly on the battery. After the 'low battery' warning, I have to charge it with a computer and usb cord to get another 13 minutes of so of video. -SD card is not included -Does not have the option of recording 5 minute clips as advertised (3 min. is the maximum). I set it on 3 minutes, but have never gotten a clip longer than 32 seconds. -When it does work, it sometimes blinks on & off so there are gaps in the video.
