Customer Reviews

1/2 in. Brass PEX Barb x Female Copper Sweat Adapter (10-Pack) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Good - Won't Solder Similar to other reviewers here, I was unable to get solder to stick to these. Doesn't have anything to do with cleaning, prep, or materials (solder, flux, etc) as I used many other fittings in my system (with identical installation) and ONLY these gave me trouble. EVERYONE of these wouldn't work. Too bad. First Sharkbite product I've purchased which I'm not satisfied with. Interestingly enough, these have a larger ID than the other sweat fittings I purchased Most fittings have enough friction on the pipe to stay in place while you sweat them on. These things are just loose enough that they will slide off the pipe.

They're very nicely manufactured and heavy duty. When reconfiguring showers for new fixtures prior to tiling, they are invaluable. Sweat onto the old copper, PEX from there. And because they are inexpensive, you aren't tempted to put a push-to-fit connection in there to speed up your installation. I just made myself a manifold with them, was out in the field and didn't want to drive back to town to buy one. Great value.

I picked these, 1/2 inch brass PEX Barb female copper sweat adapter ( 10 pack ), for my husband who is a whiz at everything. He is always doing plumbing for ourselves and others, and although plumbing is not his favorite, especially sweating pipes, he said these worked good for him. He also stated it is very handy to have these in a 10 pack so they are always in his plumbing box if needed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This sweat adapter is available in both male and female, they seal the joints to prevent leakage when transitioning from copper piping to plastic piping. Like out tankless water heater we switched from the 40 gallon water heater of old. Our house is primarily plastic, so this was a needed item to haqve on hand for the plumber. We used female on one side and male on the other.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from They're Brass This is complete garbage Anyone with a little experience with a propane torch can tell you, however, that soldering is never a one-size-fits-all operation, with different jobs requiring different techniques. In particular, soldering brass pipes can be more challenging than soldering copper. Read on to learn why and to learn some tips on how to successfully solder a brass fitting. Brass Fittings Require Higher Temperatures The basic process for joining brass or copper pipes is essentially the same: Clean the pipe ends that you intend to join until they are shiny and free from any burrs or debris. Next, brush on the plumbing flux and push the pipes together. Finally, heat up the fitting using a torch, while dripping liquid solder into the joint to create a secure and water-tight barrier. In 2011 they stopped producing MAPP and now they produce MAPP+ which is 400 degree cooler than MAPP Brass does not solder well, brass is cheaper than copper, right sharkbite manfacturer

I first discovered push connect shark bite connectors when doing plumbing a few years back. When I went to re-plumb my house, the associate at Home Depot informed me about the crimp on shark bite adapters and I’m glad I listened. It was cheaper and better. Did I mention easier!! I bought the crumping tool for this application. It was an expensive investment, $100, I have already used it for doing other jobs so it ended up paying for itself. The female sweat & crimp adapter make job even easier. Sometimes You want to leave some copper and this adapter allows this to happen. I reccomend hiring a plumber if you don’t know how to solder this adapter on. Could cause serious leaking and damage. Once sweated on, you can continue on with whatever line you are trying to run. Shark bite tubing is needed for these adapters. Color coded and easy to use. Recommended for the advanced DIY-er.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These Pex fittings manufactured under the SharkBite name are used to transition from conventional ½’ rigid copper line to Pex. This particular size (½x ½”) female sweat are fitted over the ½” line then soldered in place. Pex tubing is then slid over the barb and either crimped in place with a copper pex crimp ring or a pex clamp. By following standard sweat guidelines and methods, these fittings solder well. Clean material and flux prove they accept solder properly and show over 98% solder penetration throughout the full joint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The SharkBite 1/2 in. brass PEX barb x female copper sweat adapters are much more economical to purchase in larger quantities like this 10 pack. It’s a convenient size for a smaller jobs. I have found I like the SharkBite products and have never had a problem with any failures of these fittings. When you factor in the total cost of the PEX pipe and fittings compared to the copper pipe and fittings plus the larger labor cost of copper I will usually always use PEX.
