will these work over previously soldered copper pipe?

Asked by: tinevergreen
Not sure what you mean by previously soldered copper? Do you mean the ends that are going into the coupler or? The ends of the pipe going into this coupler need to be free of all debris and smooth as possible so this coupler can grip the pipe and seal it. One way to achieve this is to sand the pipe ends

Type L copper looked close enough to be but apparently not because you cant get the dang thing off once you put brass in, short sighted on their part so make one that works on brass pipe because everyone is stealing copper to buy food. I got so mad that I couldn't get a piece off Itooka hammer to hit. Bye 20 bucks

The fitting cracked and leaked after about a week (installed underground) so I decided to replace it with a soldered copper coupling. I bought a disconnect clip and tried to remove the Sharkbite coupler. It didn't budge. I then bought the more expensive disconnect clip. The fitting would not come off. I decided to just heat the fitting with a propane torch until the plastic internal parts melted. I finally got the fitting off. Overall I would not recommend Sharkbite fittings for anything.

Prep for a new washer and dryer turned up crappy builder pluming work. I hate sweat plumbing, and I stink at it, so it was the last thing I wanted to do. I decided to try these fittings and I am thrilled with the results. Couldn't be happier. I fed them into an Apollo Tectite box, and it was slick as could be. It was my first experience with compression fittings, and I'll say this- Once you press them in tight, press them again. That is not directed at the SharkBite fittings- I'm saying that about all compression fittings. Give them one more firm press....

Love this product, it's so simple to use and it seems to be a stable job enhancement for near impossible or really tight places that you can't normally use the materials you were using to connect lines! The only reason I didn't give it a five-star was because of the price, they are costly. I've used these in years past and they really hold up having no item replacements or leaks. I'm sold on them!

This is perfect for quick easy repairs, but is a bit expensive for general use. But when you're under the house, perfect. After 3 or 4 years, the old one disconnected easily with the u-clip, and I was able to reuse it. And, I was able to rotate the pipe in the Sharkbite to turn the outside faucet vertical without leaks. Be sure to mark insert depth on your tubing with a sharpie before assembly.

Great product for repairing pinhole leaks that develop in older copper pipes. As soon as I get around to it, going to buy some to have them at home for the next time it happens. From the way that I understand I can also use these for PEX pipe to copper joining, and I'll probably start that transition the next time.

Once I prepped the pipe (I sanded the end to insure a good connection) the connection itself took about 10 seconds to install. I highly recommend. The connector is a little pricy, but you seriously can't beat the speed, ease and security in using this connector.
