Questions & Answers

will these work over previously soldered copper pipe?

Asked by: InEvergreen
You will first need to cut past the soldered area then clean both ends of the copper pipe. Depending on how much room you have and how much you can move the pipe, you might be able to connect them one connector. Otherwise, you'll need to cut out a larger section of copper pipe and use two of these with new pipe (perhaps PEX) in the middle.

My friend returns from tropical vacation after polar vortex, finds that a vertical copper water pipe froze near connection with PEX. Plumbers working overtime taking no more business. Limited space to work. My soldering skills not great - especially in cramped quarters (two failed attempts). Bought this fitting, made clean cut in the copper, let my friend do the copper to pex connection. He couldn't believe it was that easy.

I would suggest practice with removing the pipe from the fitting prior to putting it in place as well as to determine the depth of insertion. If the pipe is not fully seated a leak is quite likely. Otherwise it is a great fitting for repair work.

I had to cut the copper pipe just so I could remove the valve and I used the SharkBite connection to reconnect the discharge line. Piece of cake- it worked great!

I took out a water softener and repaired the line with shark bite.
