Can this be used for underground gas line?

Answer

Hello, SharkBite push-to-connect fittings are approved for use with water in potable and radiant/hydronic heating applications. These fittings are not suitable for use with gas. If you have additional questions please don't hesitate to reach out to our technical support department at 877-700-4242. Best Regards,

is this product recommended for use in environments that have freezing temperatures?

Asked by Magatha July 16, 2020

Answers

Hello Magatha It depends on where and how you use this transition. Here in New Hampshire there are many summer homes where the plumbing gets blown out with air before the ground freezes. (antifreeze the drain traps) Running water don't freeze. Pex is the most forgiving due to it's flexibility. If the copper or CPVC does burst, it is invariably replaced with Pex. Sharkbite fittings are the thickest and heaviest of any fittings out there. I use this fitting for replacing Polubutylene (obsolete junk) with Pex. Because it is reusable I can replace with Pex in sections. I used Shark Bite garden valves in our garden and at the campsite None Better, you can trust the brand!

Can this be used on LP GAS line?

Asked by Danny June 5, 2020

Answers

Hey Danny No This is a conversion coupling used to join polybutylene (grey end) -to- Copper, CPVC, PE-RT or PEX Pipe (tan colored end). Polybutylene is an opsolete plumbing system that was used years ago. It did not hold up to city / municipal water. There are still many homes that have it installed and these fittings make the conversion easy. Punch in "Propane-Pipe and Fittings" into the HD search bar. Click on "propane" under the application filter for black iron, polyethelene and supply lines.

Will this connect a copper pipe to another copper pipe?

This coupling will only connect shark bite tubing to shark bite tubing. But, I believe there is an adaptor that will connect shark bite tubing to copper tubing. Cheers!

Can I remove the pb and pex insert stiffener for copper to copper connections... or swap them out with other inserts?

Hello, SharkBite polybutylene conversion coupling part # U4008LFA is intended for transitioning from ASTM D3309 compliant polybutylene tubing to any of the below types of pipe/tubing. We do not recommend using the grey end of this fitting with any other tubing except polybutylene. For copper to copper installations we recommend the use of SharkBite part # U008LFA (SKU # 283602). If you have additional questions regarding the use of SharkBite products please feel free to contact our technical support department at 877-700-4242. PEX (ASTM F876, CSA B137.5) Copper (ASTM B 88) CPVC (ASTM D 2846, CSA B137.6) PE-RT (ASTM F 2769) HDPE (SDR-9 ASTM D2737) Best Regards,

This coupling will connect Copper, CPVC, PE-RT or PEX Pipe (use the tan colored side) to Polybutylene (use the grey colored side) These fittings are invaluable when renovating, repairing or replacing existing polybutylene plumbing systems. Polybutylene is not used for new installations anymore. I have been using them to keep my home's plumbing system operable while by and by replacing the old grey tubing. They are reusable with the orange release tools. If it has the Sharkbite name on it, it will give 110% of what it says it will do. It's all good!

I'm getting 2 of these to switch from existing PB pipe to bath sink. What parts do I need to connect the supply lines?

For a Plug & Play Job: Cut all your tubing straight and ream. Push the grey end of this connector on your PB. Use either PEX Copper or CPVC to connect the brown side of this connector to a stop valve: 23036-0000LF for angle, or: 23037-0000LF for straight. Next use a 3/8 Compression X 1/2 FIP faucet connection hose (choose length) to connect stop valve to faucet. Check to see that your tubing is all the way in the push fittings. Remove the nut and ferrule from the valve to attach hose directly to valve, other end of hose to faucet.

I thought you could only use this for connecting pex to poly. Your description says you can connect to other type pipe.

Works great so far, no leaks (been 2 mos). Needs to look up manual online to push in correctly within the 1inch mark. Haven't tried to disconnect it with the ring yet, hopefully will be no problem. The pipe to be connected have to be cut really straight perpendicularly or it will get stuck. Great product overall. Hopes this line continues in the future since some homes may still have polybutylene pipes. I bought one in reserve just in case it's discontinued.
