Product Overview

SharkBite Reclaimed Water PEX is cross-linked polyethylene tubing for gray water, rainwater harvesting and reclaimed water systems only. Manufactured with a purple color background, the tubing meets color code requirements of national and state code bodies to clearly identify reclaimed water lines. SharkBite Reclaimed Water PEX is manufactured and is available in 1/2 in. to 1 in. sizes. A repeating SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to determine if the tube has been inserted all the way into the SharkBite Push-Fit Fitting. This feature only works if the tubing is cut between the SharkBite imprint pattern. SharkBite Reclaimed Water PEX can be connected with SharkBite push-fit fittings or barbed fittings - providing a variety of connection options for a trouble free installation.

I didn't order this with any immediate use in mind but I'm always in the middle of one project or another and I felt this piping would be very useful to have on hand. As shown in the images below it arrived in a tightly wound 300 ft. roll. The outside diameter is 1-1/4 in., the inside diameter is 7/8 in. and the wall thickness is 1/8 in. I tried unrolling and straightening a section but that's akin to fighting a boa constrictor. After some experimentation I found the secret is to use a heat gun. A little applied heat straightens it right out. SharkBite warranties this produce for a full 25 years when installed correctly and using approved fittings. Home Depot offers a very generous 180 return policy.

The PEXTUBE 1/2" Purple reclaimed water line is easy to use for reclaimed water lines. The purple color designation clearly makes it stand out so the installer does not get it mixed up with the standard blue and red lines that supply water to your sinks. Also, it needs to be clearly understood that it is PEX-B and the PEX-A fittings are not the same. Other than that it is very adaptable to most water systems and as long as you use the right fittings, you should have no problems.

The SHARKBITE 1 IN. X 100 FT. PURPLE COIL RECLAIMED WATER PEX PIPE was used in my country home with a septic tank. Having a septic tank it is beneficial to me to keep the "gray water" out of the septic tank because it dilutes the decomposing matter and also many times the "gray water" has soap and other products in it that destroy the bacteria that is needed to make the system be "working".

I bought this refuse line to run new pipe to spigots on our property. This is a million times easier than running PVC and requires only a connector at wash end instead of couplings every ten to twelve feet. I’ll also use this for the supply line for our garden irrigation system. After I bury it the line should last a long long time. Great product and increases my productivity!

This water refuse line seems to be good quality. I got this to run water to my shop so I can clean painting equipment. Once trenched and buried I shouldn’t have to worry about it ever again. The 300 feet is plenty for me. I like the color coding - it makes it easy to know exactly which lines are which. We have blue and red PEX supply lines in our house so there will be no mistaking the purple

I am using the 100 feet of purple water PEX pipe to irrigate a number of security bushes that I planted. The PEX pipe is 1/2" diameter and the perfect size to get the water the full 100' The coil was a bit stiffer than I expected but after warming, it flattened out and I was able to bury the PEX pipe easily. This is a very sturdy pipe and I recommend it.

PEX is some of the most versitile pipe available. I intend to use this 3/4 inch pipe to run grey water to my garden. The purple color is perfect so that it is obvious that this is non-potable water. You don't want any chance of cross connections with your potable water. One very important point is that this is PEX B. It was very hard to confirm this. While the "specifications" list on the HomeDepot web page did say PEX type is B the SharkBite site did not specifiy the type. All of my other plumbing is PEX A. I have used primarily expansion insert fittings in the PEX A. However, you cannot use expansion insert fittings in PEX B. This isn't really a problem as long as you use the proper fittings for PEX B. I plumbed up a demonstration piece showing the type of fittings that I am using on my system. These are the SharkBite type fittings that you insert and they automatically lock. These new type fittings are actually a lot easier to use than the old expansion insert or insert clamp fittings.

This is a review of the 1 in. X 100 feet long Purple Coil reclaimed water PEX pipe. I would expect this PEX pipe to be of high quality. From what I can see, this PEX pipe does look and feel like the high quality I expect from Home Depot product lines. As you can see from the pictures, this comes in a roll. Those pictures will also show the difference between this Purple PEX pipe and a standard 1 inch potable (house) pipe. According to the packaging as shown in my pictures, this purple pipe is NOT rated for standard potable water usage. Potable water simple means that it is safe to drink. Water that is NOT safe to drink will be carried in purple colored pipes, in my local city, code restricts purple pipe from being used with potable water systems. This purple pipe is used for grey water, rainwater and reclaimed water. Grey water to water that comes out of sinks showers and laundry. An example of reclaimed would be the water treated in the last tank of an aerobic septic tank that has been treated with chlorine before it is sprayed in your yard. From what I know, the standard is to use purple pipe for non-potable water so it can be easily identified as such. As I eluded to before, our aerobic septic system uses purple pipe to carry the reclaimed water to the 3 sprinkler heads in my yard. As you can see from my pictures, this 1 inch pipe is has an inside diameter of less than 1 inch (about 7/8 inch). This is less than the 1 inch from potable water 1 inch pipes. The connectors used to connect this purple pipe are different that the connectors you might have used on standard 1 inch pipes. Coming in a 100 foot roll is extremely useful, it allows you to build a contiguous water line for up to 100 feet. These are normally buried under ground. The connectors for these pipes are the quick connection connectors and are usually more expensive than the ones you glue together, having the 100 foot sections instead of the standard 10 feet saves money on the connectors and reduces the chances of leaks. The downside of this 100 foot roll is that it is sometimes a challenge to unroll this pipe to install in a straight line. 2 people to uncoil this roll does make it much easier to do, although once in the ground or attached to something line a 2X4, the pipe stays straight. This is very useful PEX, I will be using this in a water catch system I am designing for a cabin in the woods.
