About This Product

SharkBite PEX tubing is a cross-linked polyethylene tubing for a wide range of residential and commercial plumbing applications. Manufactured with an oxygen barrier for radiant floor and hydronic heating applications (available in orange). The oxygen diffusion barrier applied to the exterior limits oxygen permeation through the tubing wall in hydronic heating applications which prevents corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system. A repeating SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to determine if the tube has been inserted all the way into the SharkBite Push-to-Connect Fitting. This feature only works if the tubing is cut between the SharkBite imprint pattern.

Highlights

  • Strong, flexible, resilient pipe that provides superior temperature performance
  • Oxygen barrier helps prevent the corrosion of ferrous metal parts in the heating system
  • Flexibility reduces number of fittings needed to complete a job; reducing cost and leak points
  • Can be installed wet or dry for immediate pressure testing
  • SharkBite imprint pattern provides a visual aid to ensure pipe is fully inserted when using SharkBite push-to-connect fittings
  • SharkBite system provides a variety of connection options, SharkBite PEX can be connected with SharkBite push-to-connect fittings or barbed fittings
  • Manufactured and tested to meet or exceed the requirements of the ASTM F-876/877/2023 and CSA B137.5

Q:Is this product rated for outdoor use?

    Answer This Question

A:  I would advise using it inside use only. Outside products used need to be uv stable and must be able to be frozen without being compromised in cold climates. I would not use this product outside. It is made and works well for its intended purpose. Have used it for 3 seasons inside as designed and worked well for me.

A:  Hello, SharkBite oxygen barrier PEX tubing is suitable for outdoor use but must be protected from UV to prevent degradation. Typically, foam pipe insulation is suitable for protecting the tubing from U.V. It will also be important to prevent the water from freezing as this could cause damage to the tubing. If you have additional questions please don't hesitate to reach out to our technical support department at 877-700-4242. Best Regards,

The pex performs as one would expect pex to perform, flexible yet a bit stiff. ( Careful not to bend beyond it's recommended turning radius to avoid kinks) you'll also want to be careful unspooling the pex, if you try to uncoil the spool of pex without rotating the coil you'll likely end up with a twisted mess as the tension builds up. But once you get familiar with the product it's nice to work with.

Worled the same as the last roll. Didn't leak on the pressure test. Probably will hold up to the boiler water - haven't had the opportunity to try that yet.

Overall I was happy with the price and curbside pickup for this item. The only reason that it didn't get 5 stars is that when i got received the item the original packaging had been damaged and the roll was taped back together. It was taped probably as good as it could have been but for anyone who has tried to unroll one of these it wasn't fun cause it was messed up. Overall I would buy it again and hope for a better roll.

The 1" PEX is very hard to bend. Make sure you have plenty or room to bend around corners or plan to cut and install 90 deg corners. Also, if using crimp rings with a crimping tool made for 1/2", 3/4" & 1" like I did, you will need to slide cheater pipes onto the handles to get the crimp started.
