A:  It works excellent in copper pipe and I have used it with copper pipe where the flow is water and not air and it has not liquefied. I don't know if it works well for air. But in copper pipe this fitting works excellent. God bless you Angel

When something looks too good to be true, there is usually a hidden cost or problem with it. Sharkbite fittings are one product that breaks that mold. This is the second time I've purchased this particular product. First time was when a copper pipe in my basement sprung a leak due to a nail puncturing it when the house was built, and the nail finally rusting out of the hole. This was attached directly to an old dry floor joist, so I was hesitant to solder a new section in. I found this Sharkbite Slip Coupling, and what would have been an hour or more job, along with the possibility of burning down my house, turned out to be a five minute permanent fix. That was about 8 years ago, and there is has been no sign of leaking since. I later had to replace the main shutoff valve for my house. Since the old one didn't completely stop the water, it would have been physically impossible to solder a new valve onto the pipe. I opted for the Sharkbite 3/4" ball valve instead, and had no trouble at all installing it even with the water trickling out the cut end of the pipe. I also had to shorten the pipe above the pressure regulator, so I turned again to the Slip Coupling fitting. And again, it made the job very easy. That was nine months ago, and so far it's holding pressure just fine. The only drawback is the cost of the fittings, but I'm willing to spend the extra for the safety factor (no torch work) and ease of installation.

            Super easy to install
Used to replace cpvc connection to whole house water filter that had a slow drip. Not able to fully tighen the original installation since one end was fixed preventing the ability to rotate the fitting into the waterfolter body. Cut the cpvc pipe connection and installed a 1 inch nipple on the end of the Sharkbite coupling and tightened into the filter. Slipped the cpvc pipe into the coupling and turned the water back on. Worked like a charm and was very easy to install.

              So worth it!
Used this on an ancient copper pipe under our cottage which had burst over the NY winter. I am not a plumber but I used the sharkbite deburring tool and slipped the sharkbite fitting on the first side. It took a couple of tries for me to move it back but it was obvious when it "clicked" into place. SUCCESS! And so worth it!

Accidentally nicked a 3/4 inch copper pipe with a reciprocating saw. Of course I did this on a Saturday so getting a plumber in would have been very costly. I have never done any solder work on copper pipes. I'm pretty handy and I probably could have figured it out, but I was hoping for an alternate solution. Guy in the HD plumbing department suggested the SharkBite. I was a bit sceptical but decided to give it a try. I watched the video on the SharkBite website. Cut out a 2" section of the pipe where I nicked it and slid the SharkBite on one side then pushed over the side. Said a prayer and turned the main valve back on. Worked like a champ. When you first try to put the SharkBite on the pipe it seems that it does not want to go on and I was afraid that I might have done something wrong. After reviewing things and dermining that I was doing it per the instructions I just got a bit more forceful with my twisting and pushing and it slipped on the first pipe as it should. Same thing with moving it back over the second pipe. It will move with the proper amount of twisting and force. If you watch the SharkBite video they want you to use the SharkBite Depth Deburr Gauge (sold seperately) to clean the burrs of the pipe and measure how far you will slide the SharkBite onto the pipe. No need for that. Just use some emory cloth to clean the burrs and a ruler to mark the pipe.

This product does not work on existing pipes. After slipping one end on and the other half way on, it would not go the rest of the way on, and it would not come off. Yes, thankyou, I did use the little tool, in fact I tried one on each end. After several calls to Sharkbite customer service I was told that some of the older copper pipe 'might' not work with this. Thanks for telling me that up front. Since I was working on the main water line and the house was without water, I had to call someone to help. The part had to be cut out and pex line was put in. The best way to express my experience with this product is what he said on the way out... trying to use SharkBite on existing pipes is an absolute disaster!

Hello, we are sorry for the difficulty you experienced with the SharkBite 3/4-inch Slip Coupling and we understand your frustration. SharkBite fittings do work with older copper pipe, however, we recommend to make sure that the pipe is clean and free of old solder and debris. The picture provided shows older solder on copper pipe. Having old solder on the pipe changes the diameter of the pipe and will not allow the fitting to be pushed to the full insertion depth. This may also cause the stainless steel teeth to get stuck on the pipe, preventing it from being able to slip. Again, we are sorry for the poor experience and hope you will try SharkBite again.
