3/4 in. Push-to-Connect x FIP Brass Ball Valve

I am not a plumber and I had to cut two copper pipes but I do not know how to solder. I learned about shark bite and I installed it for shutoff means and it worked. No leaks! I checked it daily for a few days and it's been a HUGE help.

I used this sharkbite push to connect valve to install a new hot water heater. It made the job so easy I could hardly stand it! I had been fretting the cost of hiring a plumber because I had no confidence sweating fittings myself! Sharkbite saved me a bunch of money! Last summer I installed a 3/4 ball valve to my outside water. It worked fine. This year I opened it back up and water is squirting out. What happened

An unknown past contractor somehow bypassed the main water shutoff to my house and I had to replace a yard hydrant. This ultimately involved cutting and capping a live 1" water line at full pressure. We have about 110 psi, Plumbers seem to hate sharkbite fittings because they are homeowner friendly. I back hoed a 50" deep by 30" by 5' hole to get to the line to the yard hydrant. The 1" copper pipe wad completely encrusted in what turned out to be calcium. I removed it with full strength Hydrochloric acid (phosphoric wouldn't get through it). This left the pipe bare. I then polished a 6" section with 500 wet/dry paper. I was very careful to choose an area without a nick or dent. I used a quality pipe cutter and was careful not to let the cutter spiral because it would be an 0 ring seal and requires a perfect surface. I cut the pipe and believe me, a lot of water comes out the end of a 1'' pipe at 110 psi. With the ball valve in the open position I slipped the fitting over the pipe all the way to the seat, turned off the valve and could feel the shark teeth move and snap into the pipe. It went perfectly. It was a hard and scary job. I built all the plumbing to the new hydrant with solder joints, added an accessible shutoff in a 6" access 20" deep and connected it to the other end of the sharkbite shutoff with a cleaned piece of 1" pipe. By the way, the water blowing through the shutoff dislodged the outboard 0 ring. I was lucky to spot it laying in the water and figured out where it came from. I observed the outfit for 24 hours before burying the whole thing. It all works perfectly.

I installed this last winter to replace the old corroded cold water supply valve when we replaced the hot water tank. Also has the Sharkbite supply lines. The HD guy explained how to do it and it took no time at all, He also said keep removal tool on line so you don't lose, you can see it just above valve in pic I just recently checked the valve and no leaks all is still secure. It was great not having to sold joints and it is a solid fit. Planning on buying more to install additional shutoff valves around house this winter as the builder who did our house in 80's did bare minimum code meaning only a main supply cutoff, none for other zones.
