A:Â Hello,
SharkBite model # U274LFA is suitable for 3/4" nominal pipe (7/8" OD) on one side and 1/2" nominal pipe (5/8" OD) pipe on the other side. Unfortunately, this fitting is not suitable for use with 3/4" OD and 1/2" OD copper pipe. If you have additional questions please feel free to contact our technical support department at 877-700-4242.

Q:How long of pipe do i need to make a clean connection with the sharkbite?

Answer This Question
A:Â The stub to connect to should be about 3/4" long, once it is squared off and deburred, so that the fitting can slide on to its appropriate depth.
Note however that a short stub like that might prevent easy removal (with the removal tool), since the tool itself requires about 3/8" of space beyond the plastic "release ring" to slip the removal tool in place over the tubing.

A:Â 1 inch for 1/2'' pipe
by|May 4, 2023
A:Â I would recommend at least 1 1/2 inch of pipe on each end of the SharkBite connector. This would allow 1 inch of pipe that goes into the connector and allows room for the disconnect C-ring that can be used to slide the fitting off the pipe if you need to change the length of the pipe or use the fitting somewhere else.

A:Â A 1/2" SharkBite fitting requires an insertion dept of 0.95", so you will need just shy of an inch to make a clean connection with SharkBite. If you want to be extra safe we sell a Depth/Deburring Tool (search Model # U702 on Homedepot.com) this will allow you to deburr your copper and also mark the insertion depth so you can be sure you have a proper connection once complete.

This is the first time I’ve used Sharkbite fittings and I was really happy with them.
I have no plumbing experience so not having to worry about soldering joints together was a big plus for me, super easy to use and zero leaks.
Changed out several shut off valves under sinks from the old compression style and replaced a leaking sillcock, they are also compatible with both copper and pex water pipe.

The whole SharkBite Family of products is very good with one large exception. Aside from it being easy to install, it is very expensive compared to sweating copper and it "DOES NOT COME APART". Why would you ever want to take it apart, you may ask? Well, if you need to repair one SharkBite connection out of a series of connections, your may not be able to get that connection (or any other one) loose to make the repair. In their advertising video they demonstrate how easy the connections come apart with the small disconnect tool. Yea Right! Maybe five minutes after installation. But after they have been installed a while 6 months - 2 years you probably won't be able to get them apart unless you use "excessive force" with a open neck wrench "banging" with a hammer on the disconnect tool. Many times this action destroys the disconnect tool. I built a custom hot water system that included a tank and a tankless unit interconnected with $500.00 of SharkBite Valves, Elbows, Connectors and Shut Off Valves. With the "Big Texas Freeze" the whole SharkBite System was damaged or destroyed because I couldn't get it apart. SharkBite is great for a connecting of one or two connections but if you are going to build a complex hot water system "learn to sweat copper". Copper is 5X less expensive and you can just heat it if you need to get it apart.

Just perfect these are! I used this type of connector throughout my home. These work every time and I have never had a leak. They are easy to remove and reuse multiple times without any issues. Home Depot sells a small tool too that makes taking these on and off even easier. These slip right on and after doing it a few times you get a feel for that last little click feel when it seats in perfectly.

I love Sharkbite connectors. I have several retrofit projects around the house that make sweating pipes difficult. Using the push fit connector makes allows the project to be completed in 1/2 the time. I have yet to have an issue with these connectors. No leaks and they fit perfectly every time. This one in particular was used to reroute a toilet supply line, closer to the wall. Installation took 10 minutes and I was back up and running. I will continue to use these products for my plumbing products.

Sharkbite ½ in. Brass 90-Degree Push to Connect Elbow
I love these Sharkbite connectors. I am a homeowner who does his own maintenance and these connectors make plumbing jobs so much easier. These connectors work on copper or PEX. Simply cut the pipe to the correct length and push it all the way into the connector for a leak proof joint. Being able to turn the pipe even after it is connected makes these even better. These even work great on the plastic plumbing inside my RV. You can remove these connectors with either a small inexpensive plastic removal tool sold by Sharkbite or via a larger forked type of tool also from Sharkbite. I prefer the forked tool, it allows you to keep a good grip in the connector while you pull the pipe out of the connector. I also have the tools for using crimp connectors on PEX, while the crimp connectors work it can be difficult to get the crimp tool into the space where you are working and it is all but impossible to remove the crimp ring to reuse the connector, these Sharkbite push to connect connectors are much easier.
It is a joy to use a product that works as advertised. Overall this is an excellent product.
