Questions & Answers

Can the water flow in either direction? If not, are both directions (1/2 to 3/4 and 3/4 to 1/2) available for purchase?

Asked by: Steve
Water can flow in either direction. When using copper pipe, I take out the plastic sleeve inside for better flow.

Can I use this to attach a 3/4" push-fit hose bib to a 1/2" pex line?

I bought a house with a cracked slab. We basically capped off all the water pipes from the slab, since it had all been leaking. There was no telling which pipes had cracked without tearing out the slab. Temporarily, it is cheaper to run water through the ceiling, dropping down to the toilet. It will be months before I can repair the slab. Meanwhile... I want a cold water faucet to use at a utility sink outside. The current (cold) water line is 3/4". I went to buy a 3/4" T, so I could drop a water line down to create a second water source. It would allow me to make coffee and such while I'm working on the house, plus clean up. The only T in stock at my local Home Depot had a 1/2" dropdown. My plan was to cut the copper water pipe, install a T to continue to supply water to the toilet while creating a faucet for washing outside. To use 1/2" pex pipe to supply that "faucet," I'm thinking we can use a hose bibb as the water fixture. That way, we can attach a garden hose adapter and provide water all over the back yard and even the driveway and also wash up things. When I got the parts home, I realized that the garden hose adapter was too large for the threaded output end of the hose bibb. Further, a 1/2" hose bibb seemed tiny. Is it possible to use this "reducing coupling" to attach a 3/4" hose bibb? Or does it work as a directional valve, so that water won't flow from the 1/2" side to the 3/4" side?
Asked by: Mike
Yes you can. You will need to use a 3/4 piece between the two to join them together. The 3/4 piece can be as long or short as you want depending on where you would want to place it. Water can run either way through reducer.

Asked by: Kmed
Yes, that fitting will work if you are trying to connect from 3/4" pipe reduced down to 1/2" pipe. If you need further assistance, please reach out to our customer service department M-F, 8am-5pm at 1-877-700-4242.

The SharkBite fittings are by far the easiest and most affordable way to make transitions from copper to Pex or to do repairs out on the market today. I have used others versions with varied levels of success. Never an issue with the SharkBite ones....and no I am not getting paid to write this review. These fittings are simply this easy and, most of all, reliable, to use!
