A:  HI, The SharkBite 1/2 in. x 1/4 in. (3/8 in. O.D.) Push-to-Connect Brass Reducing Coupling will work with pipes that have been tested to the standard listed below. Answer This Question

A:  You can remove it for copper. It is meant to stiffen PEX so the shark bite grips/seals evenly around the pipe.

        by|Dec 21, 2020

A:  There's had been many assumption made regarding the plastic tubing. I heard by taking it off you may damage the fitting. Therefore I will leave it to your discretion. However when it comes to Pex leave it on.

        by|Dec 21, 2020

A:  Hello, When installing SharkBite reducing coupling model # U058LFA with copper or CPVC pipe the tube stiffeners can be left in the fitting or they can be removed. When installing this fitting with PEX, PE-RT or HDPE tubing it is necessary to leave the tube stiffener in the fitting. I have purchased and used various sizes of the shark bite and I absolutely love them. I appreciate the option of buying (for example) one that will go from 1/4" to 1/2" or 1/2" to 3/4" and so on. Or from one size pipe to repair a pipe of the same size. I had one of these on a piece of copper tubing, outside. After about 4 years it did begin to leak, however; it was from the several sections of piping and not from the shark bite itself. I will always depend on these as opposed to doing it the old fashioned way with welding and a high paid plumber (even tho a plumber may be needed sometime). But these are the best option ever. Inside or out, they are very dependable.
