Not really, you should run you main line in 3/4" and the run out to the devices i.e. sinks and toilets in 1/2". This would be for both hot and cold water lines. This will give to ample supply pressure and volume of water to each device. Even with today low flow devices.

Trying to plan ahead with a failing water line.

My water line from the meter to my house is that brittle blue stuff that is now failing. I had a leak in January right at the water meter and managed to repair it, but given the nature of this pipe, I wonder if it can happen again. The portion that was repaired is under a flower bed; the rest of the pipe runs under a concrete driveway. First question: is the pipe adequately protected by the driveway to not fail again? Second question: In case it might, I want to run a line around the driveway to minimize the amount of concrete that needs to be torn up. My plan is to lay in a course of 1"PEX, capping it off at both ends and refilling the ditch [which has already been dug to requirements thanks to conscripted teenage labor.] This way if the pipe fails again, all that would be necessary would be to uncap the PEX, connect it to the meter and complete the connection to the house. does his make sense? it seems silly to refill the ditch if there's a chance it may need to be re-dug for a future break. Third question: If I do this, how should I cap the ends to prevent dirt from entering the PEX? thanks!

This PEX is rated for direct bury....but I would trust it more with tree roots and things going over it to be in PVC. But it IS rated for direct bury....you just have to keep sunlight off it and in the ground.

This item is the best thing that I have purchased for a home renovation yet. I will never use copper tubing again unless I am forced. This is really easy to use and simple to install the runs that you need, but the curl in the line is a little much. I used a manifold system with my install as well.

I apologize to all of the plumbers out there for what I am about to say and I'd recommend stopping here if you'd be offended by my opinions. I feel like PEX is the current and future of plumbing water lines. The ease of using the fittings and having a fool proof hot/cold identification is amazing. Furthermore, the efficiency of heat transfer is much better with PEX over metal, per Consumers Energy Efficiency expert. I am all about two things: saving money and being efficient. This does both. I was able to pick up the piping with ZERO experience, consult the internet, consult depot and successfully replace galvanized with PEX within a day. Sure, the sharkbites are a rip off but so is hiring a plumber to sweat your pipes. I've pressure tested and had the water on for 3 months now with no apparent issues. I'll revisit this post in a year or so to give you guys an update but this is a BUY, BUY, BUY!!!! Last thing, buy or rent the $80-$100 crimper. You'll thank me later..... Good luck, my fellow amateurs.

Replaced my old pvc water supply line from meter to the house with this pex. Now, it is 400' with no joints of a material that will never freeze and bust. It is amazing to me that this entire length has no connecting joints except to the meter and the inside of my house. Joints are always the first to break.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than 5 stars This is my go to pipe for plumbing. I highly recommend pex. I use this for all my plumbing anymore if at all possible. You have fewer joints and more flexibility than using pvc or cpvc. I have yet to see any pex pipe freeze and bust
