Hot or cold. All SharkBite PEX Pipe is can be used on hot or cold water lines and is guaranteed for up to 200 degrees and 200psi. The red, white or blue colors is just so you can designate lines and not get them crossed up during installation. Yes you should be able to. Just exceed the pressure on the fitting connections. You will have to check on what the rating is.

I apologize to all of the plumbers out there for what I am about to say and I'd recommend stopping here if you'd be offended by my opinions. I feel like PEX is the current and future of plumbing water lines. The ease of using the fittings and having a fool proof hot/cold identification is amazing. Furthermore, the efficiency of heat transfer is much better with PEX over metal, per Consumers Energy Efficiency expert. I am all about two things: saving money and being efficient. This does both. I was able to pick up the piping with ZERO experience, consult the internet, consult depot and successfully replace galvanized with PEX within a day. Sure, the sharkbites are a rip off but so is hiring a plumber to sweat your pipes. I've pressure tested and had the water on for 3 months now with no apparent issues. I'll revisit this post in a year or so to give you guys an update but this is a BUY, BUY, BUY!!!! Last thing, buy or rent the $80-$100 crimper. You'll thank me later..... Good luck, my fellow amateurs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from STIFF, but workable...INSTALL tips... I purchased this to replace my 1/2" copper lines to install a water softener. Our home has a 3/4" service coming in, but back in the 50's, they thought that it was a good idea to run everything in half inch. Since I had to make a 35' run just to feed the water softener, I thought that I'd replace all the copper with pex and SharkBites. Project went smooth as silk. DO NOT cut off the outside plastic from the roll of tubing - simply cut the center of the plastic out on ONE side, and then the plastic bands. Find the end of the pipe in the CENTER of the coil, and feed the pipe from there. This way when you feed the new pipe, the coil can simply spin and un-wind as you pull, and the rest of your pipe stays clean. Pipe CAN be straightened, and has a remarkably low "memory" - meaning that when you bend the pipe in the opposite direction of the natural coil curve, it does not want to immediately snap back to that shape. It will try to return to that shape, but VERY slowly, which allows you to complete your install. If you have places where you need to make long runs, a small piece of blue masking tape can be placed over the end of the pipe to keep debris out.

Unfortunately, not as many fittings are available as I wanted. Wanted to tap existing 3/8” threaded fitting that feeds dishwasher for pot filler. Need 3/8” to PEX coupling but had to jury rig to make it work.

Installation is challenging because of the 300ft coil pipe and 1” thickness but that is to be expected. After using the manual clamps for the stainless steel clamps, I purchased the Ryobi 18-volt clamp tool to make the project easier.
